Press ConferenceforBeijingWomen's Development,Beijing Municipal Women's Congress Held

 

The Information Office of Beijing Municipality and the Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) held a press conference onBeijing women's developmentand the 14th Beijing Municipal Women's Congress, on June 11.

 

Zhao Haiying, Vice-President and spokesperson of the BWF, provided information about women's development in the cityover the past five years and about the 14th Beijing Municipal Women's Congress.

 

The conference was presided over by Tian Wei, Director of the Publicity Division of the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee. Liu Ling,Deputy Inspector of the BWF, and heads of other relevant departments attended the event.

 

In the past five years, women's federations at all levels in Beijing haveupheld Party leadership and adhered to the socialist development path of women with Chinese characteristics. They firmly upheld the fundamental requirements of enhancing the political awareness, the forward-thinking capability, and the mass-linemindset; and preventing from becoming institutionalized,administrated, aristocratic and recreational.

 

While serving the overall situation, serving women, and serving development as the purpose, the women's federations have united and led the women to implement Beijing's strategic positioning as the capital city of China, strengthen the construction of Beijing as the national political center, cultural center, international exchange center, and science and technology innovation center, and improve the level of serving for central offices of the Party, the government, and the PLA; serving for international communication; serving for the development of science, technology, and education; and serving for the people.

 

They have made contributions tothe Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development, the relief of non-capital functions, the high-quality growth requirementsfor the capital, and the development of Tongzhou District,the sub-center of Beijing. In addition, they have achieved innovative development in women's work and women's development.

 

The 14th Beijing Municipal Women's Congress will be held at the Beijing Conference Center on June 18-20.

 

The theme of the conference was:to put the guiding principles from the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, unswervingly follow the development path of socialist women with Chinese characteristics, adhere to thenational capital standards, contribute to the building of a world-class harmonious and livable capital, and work together to enable Beijing tosecure the decisive victory in finishing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respectsand realizingthe Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

 

The agenda of the conference was: to listen to and review the work report of the 13th executive committee of the BWF; and to elect the 14th executive committee of the BWF

 

The conference also reviewed the course and achievements of the overall development of the women in Beijing over the past five years, and proposed the general plans and tasks for women's work in the next five years.

 

The 14th Beijing Women's Congress has 690 deputies who come from the Party and government organs, and departments of publicity, education, science and technology, health, sports, united front, politics and law, State-owned assets management, agriculture, garrison command, armed police, the 2022 Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee, women's groups and social organizations, said Zhao Haiying, adding thatthey are outstanding womenand backbones from all walks of life.

 

The BWF is a mass organization of women from all walks of life and of all nationalities in Beijing, and also a local organization of the All-China Women's Federation. Its basic function is to represent and safeguard women's rights and promote gender equality.The highest authority of the BWF is the Beijing Women's Congress, which is held every five years.
