Zhao Yangyu is the Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Secretary of the Party General Branch of Peking University Third Hospital. With more than four decades of medical practice, she has remained steadfast on the clinical front line, regarding maternal and infant safety as her highest mission. As a leading figure at the Municipal Critical Maternal Rescue Center, she keeps her phone on 24/7, ready at any moment to respond to emergencies. She has led her team in confronting major clinical challenges in obstetrics, achieving outstanding results in the treatment of complex and critically ill maternal–fetal cases.

A trailblazer in innovation, she has pioneered the ultrasound scoring system for placenta accreta spectrum and the “nine-step surgical approach”, bringing her team to a leading international level in this field. She also established the “Delivery Room Traffic Light System” risk warning system, which has been widely implemented in primary healthcare facilities across China and has significantly reduced the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. In addition, she led the creation of one of the earliest and largest fetal medicine centers in China, advancing the diagnosis and treatment of complex fetal disorders. The survival rate of intrauterine treatment for complicated twin pregnancies now exceeds 70%, safeguarding life at its earliest stage.

As Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program, she has led more than 20 major research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Her research has provided crucial evidence to inform and improve maternal and child health policies. She has published over 300 papers in leading academic journals, offering strong theoretical support for clinical practice. With exceptional medical expertise, exemplary professional ethics, selfless dedication, and deep compassion, she profoundly embodies the mission and responsibility of medical professionals.
