Beijing Women International Exchange Center (BWIEC) launched a special event at the headquarters of Zhonghua Book Company on October 27 as part of the third international cultural campaign Read the World, See the Globe.
 
The campaign aims to encourage Chinese and foreign families in Beijing to broaden their international horizons, cultivate an atmosphere of family reading, and share multiple reading cultures from around the world.
 
On the theme of “Chinese and Foreign Perspectives on the Evolution of the Book”, the campaign attracted many families from Beijing who enjoy sharing and spreading the culture of reading.
 
As part of the activity, Zhang Wei, manager of the library of Zhonghua Book Company, explained the development of ancient books to children by taking the Chinese characters that relate to the word “book” as starting points.
 
Ferguglia Thaise, a foreign student from Italy, presented a fresh perspective for children and parents to learn by sharing the classic Italian story Puppet Adventure.
 
Moreover, children and parents discovered how books are made, learned about the 100-year-old history of Zhonghua Book Company, and got to know how reading plays an important role in social progress and the development of civilization.
 
Children and parents attending the activity said that, reading books has become an important channel for understanding different cultures from every country nowadays. Attending the international activity Read the World, See the Globe has helped them to broaden their international horizons, learn and experience multiple reading cultures, and understand the development and evolution of books from different viewpoints, they said.
 
The activity also helped cultivate children's reading interest and reading habits, and many of them expressed hope to participate in follow-up activities in the future, they added.
