As a group member of Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges, Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) recently sent Bai Jiao, deputy director of the Office of Beijing Municipal Working Committee on Children and Women, to attend and address the ongoing 55th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council via video link. Bai gave an online address in the general debate under agenda item 3: Promotion and protection of all human rights — civil, political, economical, social and cultural rights.

Bai talked about achievements made by the Chinese capital city in terms of investigations and publicity concerning China's anti-domestic violence law since its implementation in March 2016. She asked the international community to pay more attention to the protection of lawful rights and interests of women and children, strengthen the sharing of relevant experience, invest more into relevant cause, advance the implementation of relevant policies and measures with concrete results, and work together for improving institutional protection mechanisms toward women in scientific manners.

The protection of women and children's lawful rights and interests has been always a central topic in global human rights governance. The BWF has fully leveraged its internal strengths, united and led women from all social sectors in the capital city to make their voice heard in the international stage, and shared with the world about the city's experience in narrowing the digital divide between men and women, guaranteeing women's cultural rights, promoting women's entrepreneurship and innovation, and providing rural women with necessary assistance in their development. The BWF will take the lead in telling the inspirational stories of local women, sharing with the world about the city'successful experience, deepen cooperation with international partners, and contribute its wisdom and strength to the building of a more equitable and inclusive society.
