Beijing Women's Federation and other local authorities jointly held a ceremony on March 8 to inaugurate this year's Double Learning and Double Emulation initiative and celebrate the arrival of International Women's Day.

The scheme, which was jointly launched by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, the ministries of agriculture and education and others in 1989, has prioritized its work on further boosting the willingness of rural women from all ethnic groups in the country to learn cultural knowledge, science and technology, and compete against each other in the pursuit of personal career growth and achievements in social and economic affairs.

President of Beijing Women's Federation Cai Shumin gave a summary of the capital city's work in relation to the program last year and made an arrangement of relevant affairs this year at the inauguration ceremony.

She stressed that Beijing Women's Federation would work closely with other relevant departments to fully follow the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, rally more support from women of all sectors for the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics, encourage them to get involved in business startups and innovation, strengthen their sense of gain, happiness and satisfaction, press ahead with vocational and career training for rural women, and facilitate the development of modernized agriculture with support in terms of human resources and new drivers of growth amid their implementation of the initiative.

Moreover, they are expected to make strong moves in the rural revitalization strategy, organize and lead rural women to engage in the promotion of modernized agriculture and the improvement of the natural environment, increase their income and improve their living standards via poverty alleviation projects, and facilitate cooperation and interaction amongst women from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei under the coordinated development of the three regions.

For his part, Deputy Mayor of Beijing Municipal People's Government Lu Yan highly praised the sound progress made by local authorities in implementing the scheme last year.

He urged relevant departments to continue with the program through making innovations in their women-oriented services and poverty relief efforts, making a full employment of all available resources in building a closer partnership with rural women, adding women's development into their agendas, overcoming barriers detrimental to women's growth, and perfecting their working mechanisms conducive to helping women get employed and improve their personal living standards.

Meanwhile, local women's federations should make the initiative, which emphasizes women's participation in the rural revitalization strategy, an important carrier for the Communist Party of China (CPC) to advance its work on rural women in terms of agricultural development, environmental protection, the building of advanced folk norms and conventions and the assistance to underprivileged residents, rally them closely around the CPC Central Committee and encourage them to make bigger contributions to rural prosperity.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Lu, Cai and other attending officials from local authorities toured an agri-business enterprise there, which has engaged in the development of modernized agriculture via leisure and sightseeing programs.
