Light Up the City, Build a Bright Future for Children
On November 20, many landmark buildings in areas such as Beijing Central Axis, Zhongguancun, Beijing Olympic Tower, Jingguang Center, Wangjing Building Cluster, Grand Canal CBD, Sinosteel E-world and Beijing Silk Street illuminated the night sky with a spectacular light show and thematic taglines "Building Up a Dream and a Friendly City for Children" and "Making Children's Voice Heard and Future Reachable."
The light show and special taglines have reflected the city's commitment to creating a bright future for minors.
Disseminate Child-Friendly Concepts
During the event, child-friendly-city-themed videos have been broadcast in 220 outdoor screens, 6,200 office-building TV screens and over 20,000 mobile televisions on buses among other locations. Relevant public-welfare advertisements have been posted in 160 bus stations, subway carriages and platforms. Seven radio channels have broadcast over 600 times of relevant advertisements. Representatives of relevant government departments, public institutions and enterprises, experts, grassroots workers and children have been invited to take part in the production of a six-episode child-friendly-city-themed TV program, which is broadcast in local media outlets to further raise public awareness of building a child-friendly city.
Make Children's Special Demands Known from Their Perspectives
The working committee's office kicked off a special campaign on the selection and cultivation of teenage spokespersons for the capital city on this year's International Children's Day in a move to facilitate the promotion of the child-friendly concept "view the city from the physical height of children," and to bring children involved in the building of a child-friendly city.
The special campaign was conducted online via a WeChat mini-program and a virtual participation route. The organizer received 2,100 submissions of short videos that underscore child-friendly stories, achievements and proposals and receive thousands of likes from online audiences. At last, the top 10 teenage spokespersons and three online teenage spokespersons were selected for the capital city, further enhancing their sense of being the city's junior masters and their abilities in serving the society.
Build Child-Friendly Brands
The women's federations and the offices of working committees on children and women at various levels across the capital city have made full use of major children-related campaigns and their organizational strengths in the building of special services platforms, the organization of child-friendly services activities, and the cultivation of child-friendly services brands.

Dongcheng District has strengthened the integration of local social resources, built partnership with the Bank of Beijing in the building of a child-friendly banking institution, and asked hospitals as well as other medical bodies to further improve their facility building for children to receive better medical services. Xicheng District has incorporated child-friendly elements into the renovation and upgrading of Guangyanggu Urban Forest Park, Lingjing Children's Park and residential compounds. Chaoyang District has set up 46 children's observatory teams in 43 sub-district areas, conducted 230 inspection and deliberation activities, and got over 1,000 families involved in the administration of residential compounds and the building of a child-friendly city. Yanqing District has integrated resources held by 12 family-education platforms, undertook the collection of successful family-education cases, and produced family-education promotional videos in a bid to help minors fasten the first button in their life. Fengtai, Shijingshan, Tongzhou and Daxing districts have rallied social organizations and community volunteers to conduct science-popularization reading activities among children and guide them to take part in parent-child interactive games as well as the production of handmade items. Other districts across the capital city have taken the community- and village-level children's services centers as primary platforms to hold child-friendly publicity and caring activities.
Let's create a better life for children and a brighter future for the city together.
