BWF Launches Extensive Campaign to Promote Constitutional Awareness
Date:2024-12-10 10:53:02 Views:December 4, 2024, marks the 11th National Constitution Day and the seventh annual “Constitution Week” (held from December 1 to 7). To enhance public awareness of the Constitution, Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF) has launched a series of initiatives aimed at implementing the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law. These efforts seek to uphold the spirit of the Constitution, strengthen public confidence in the rule of law, and encourage women to respect, study, and apply legal principles. Leveraging a variety of platforms, BWF has widely promoted constitutional education to foster a culture of rule of law in the capital.
Protecting Every Woman Through the Constitution
On National Constitution Day, December 4, the BWF launched a citywide campaign to promote constitutional awareness. Posters with messages such as “Let every woman and child bask in the sunshine of happiness and peace” were displayed in high-traffic areas, including subway stations, bus stops, and community elevators. Key legal provisions, such as “Marriage, families, mothers, and children shall be protected by the state,” were featured on more than a hundred electronic screens and thousands of themed posters, highlighting the legal protection in place for women and children, raising public awareness of constitutional rights.
Collaborating with Tianjin and Hebei to Promote Legal Awareness in Rural Areas
Since the beginning of the year, following directives from the All-China Women’s Federation, the BWF has joined forces with the women’s federations of Tianjin and Hebei, along with public security, procuratorial, judicial, cyberspace administration, and agriculture and rural affairs departments, to carry out public legal education campaigns in rural areas.
On December 6, the three regions hosted a concluding exhibition in Xiqu Village, Tianjin, attended by over 200 participants, including women’s federation leaders, legal experts, and local women. Themed “Honoring the Trust by Actions: Empowering Youth with the Law,” the event featured law-themed markets, cultural performances, and an awards ceremony to discuss key topics such as anti-domestic violence measures and telecom fraud prevention, while legal experts provided guidance on constitutional rights and legal protections for women. To enhance engagement, the BWF’s volunteer team staged a humorous skit titled Harmonious Family.
The event highlighted the crucial role of women in advancing rural revitalization through legal empowerment, under the framework of the Constitution.
Case-Based Public Legal Education and Assistances
For years, the BWF has run the “Women’s Rights Protection: Bringing the Law to Your Home” campaign, focusing on case-based public legal education. Nearly 100 public service events have been held this year alone.
In partnership with the Beijing Lawyers Association Women Lawyers Special Committee, the initiative addresses the most pressing legal concerns affecting local women. Under this program, women can select topics of interest, and experienced female lawyers are invited to deliver lectures, analyze real cases, provide legal consultations, and offer direct legal services within communities, strengthening public legal awareness and deepening women’s understanding of their rights.
Strengthening Legal Protections for Women’s and Children’s Rights
From May to December this year, the BWF, in partnership with the Beijing High People’s Court, the People’s Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Public Security, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, and the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, compiled landmark cases on the legal protection of women’s and children’s rights in Beijing. By showcasing the outcomes of the Party and the state’s efforts in safeguarding rights, this initiative aims to provide guidance for local women’s rights protection and encourage key stakeholders—including judges, prosecutors, police officers, mediators, legal professionals, arbitrators, trade unions, and women’s federation officials—to apply their expertise, enhance collaboration, and forge synergy in strengthening legal protections for women’s and children’s rights.
Next, the BWF plans to hold a press conference to release these cases, accompanied by case discussions and public legal education initiatives. This effort seeks to raise awareness among women, strengthen their ability to defend their rights, and foster a strong societal commitment to protecting the legal rights of women and children.
