Beijing Women's Federation

Focusing on the overall well-being of children, the Beijing Women’s Federation, the Municipal Education Commission, the Office of the Capital Spiritual Civilization Development Committee, and the Municipal Committee for the Wellbeing of the Next Generation have jointly launched the 2025 “Happy Family” Parent-Child Campaign. This initiative seeks to help parents gain a scientific understanding of child development through a series of family education-themed activities. It aims to strengthen parent-child communication and emotional bond, create a harmonious family atmosphere, and provide high-quality companionship to support children in growing up healthy, happy, and well-rounded.

Following the enthusiastic response to the first session, “Let’s Watch It Together”—a play on children’s psychological development, recruitment has now begun for the second session of the “Weekend Family Day” series: “Let’s Do It Together”—a hands-on farming experience!

This May, let’s embark once again with anticipation and excitement on a meaningful and enjoyable parent-child journey. In the expansive fields of the farm, families will experience the earthy fragrance of the soil, listen to the cheerful twitter of the birds, and savor the joy of hard work, harvesting not only the fruits of labor but also the wisdom that comes with growth.

Theme: Let’s Farm Together

Date: May 11, 2025, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: Xiao Xi Dudu (Hei Hanling Village, Sihai Town, Yanqing District, Beijing)

Capacity: 10 family groups (one adult and one child per group)

Target Participants: Families with children aged 5-10

Fee: Free for included activities; additional items at your own expense.

Transportation: Self-driving recommended.

Event Highlights

Farming Experience: Children will venture into the fields and, under professional guidance, learn to till the soil, use farming tools, and plant a variety of crops with their own hands. This hands-on experience will help them connect with the beauty of nature, understand the origins of food, and cultivate a love for labor and the environment.

Mugwort Salve Making: Participants will learn about mugwort and its medicinal properties. They will then handle the mugwort themselves and craft it into a fragrant salve. Children will not only enjoy the fun of traditional craftsmanship but also create a natural, eco-friendly gift to take home and share with their families.

Old-Fashioned Popcorn Popping​: Participants will experience the thrill of popcorn making with a vintage shaking furnace. Children will have the chance to operate the machine themselves and, with a loud “pop”, witness kernels magically transform into delicious, fluffy popcorn. Each child will take home a bag of freshly popped treats to the joy with their family.

Free Play Area: After farming activities, children will have the chance to enjoy the play zone at the Yanqing Dudu Farm. With a variety of fun and child-friendly play equipment, they can run, laugh, and unleash their natural energy, enjoying a carefree and joyful time in a vibrant, playful environment.
