To promote physical fitness among young people and encourage families to embrace outdoor activities, the Beijing Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, and the Beijing Women’s Federation jointly hosted the 2025 Family Fitness Carnival on May 24 under the theme “Embracing the Sunshine, Growing Together.” Distinguished attendees included Liang Wei, Director of the Beijing Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation; Li Zhaoling, Executive Deputy Director of the committee; Wu Gaoshan, Zhang Xue, and Zhao Xiaowei, vice directors of the committee; Li Jinchun, Deputy Director of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee Bureau of Retired Officials and Secretary-General of the Beijing Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation; Yang Jun, Second-Level Inspector at the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports; and Li Xiangfu, Second-Level Inspector at the Beijing Women’s Federation. The event brought together 500 families from across the city.

The event officially kicked off as attending leaders sounded the ceremonial horn.

Wu Gaoshan, Vice Director of the Beijing Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation, delivered a speech in which he emphasized that sports are not only the foundation of physical health but also a powerful means of cultivating resilience and fostering a positive outlook on life. He expressed his hope that the motto “An hour of exercise a day, keeps you healthy all the way” would become a guiding principle embraced by more families.

Youth and parent representatives also took the stage to deliver speeches, calling on both children and adults to “Get moving and jog into the future together.”

At the opening ceremony, students from Henancun Center Elementary School in Shunyi District presented a vibrant dragon and lion dance performance. Meanwhile, students from Tsinghua University High School Changping Yuefu Primary School,  and Qianfeng School in Changping District lit up the stage with joyful cheerleading and dynamic taekwondo demonstrations, vividly showcasing the vigor, vitality, and confidence of the new generation.

With their parents by their side, the children dashed off the starting line and ran with determination, facing every obstacle bravely and showing what perseverance and courage truly mean.

This year’s Family Fitness Carnival was designed for families with children aged 4 to 12 years old. It featured a 2.7-kilometer course with eight challenging obstacle stations incorporating elements such as running, jumping, throwing, climbing, leaping, and rolling. Fun games like “Three-Legged Race” and “Crossing the River by Feeling the Stones” added to the excitement. Hand in hand, children and parents cheerfully made their way through the course, enjoying the joy of fitness.

The “Embracing the Sunshine, Growing Together” Family Fitness Carnival has been held for three consecutive years, gradually becoming a popular platform for fostering parent-child bonds and promoting healthy lifestyles. Moving forward, relevant departments will adhere to the principle of “health first, all-round development” by expanding accessible neighborhood sports spaces, innovating parent-child fitness activities, and creating more diverse platforms for family-oriented exercise.
