“Fostering Safe Online Spaces for Growing Minds” Cybersecurity Literacy and Awareness Event Kicks Off 2025 Summer Youth Program
Date:2025-7-8 14:49:35 Views:As summer arrives with the buzz of cicadas, students welcome the start of their school break. This year, the Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF) is placing a strong emphasis on passing down the revolutionary spirit to children, strengthening their physical and mental well-being, fostering digital literacy, and supporting holistic development. To that end, it has rolled out a series of exemplary summer activities for the children, thoughtfully curated to help them enjoy a healthy, safe, joyful, and meaningful summer break.
On July 4, the BWF, in collaboration with the Beijing Internet Court, held the first event in this summer’s program series—the “Creating Safe Online Spaces for Growing Minds” cybersecurity literacy and awareness event. Nearly 50 parents and children attended the event, which was marked by enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong eagerness to learn.
During the event, parents and children watched a public service video on internet safety, gaining insight into the complexities of the online world and the potential security threats that come with it. Guided by professionals, families toured key areas such as the Online Courtroom, Smart Enforcement, and Tianping Blockchain. Through immersive explanations and firsthand observation, they developed a deep understanding of advancements in intelligent judicial systems, offering a glimpse into the modern integration of law and technology.
The event then continued with targeted and interactive sessions tailored separately for parents and children, each focused on age-appropriate and engaging themes.
In an insightful session on “Family Education for Minors’ Digital Literacy,” an expert speaker used real-life case studies and easy-to-understand explanations to raise parents’ awareness of the potential risks associated with minors’ internet use. The session also equipped parents with a range of practical and effective strategies to help parents timely intervene in and respond to unhealthy internet use, empowering them to better guide their children in developing responsible and healthy internet use habits, ultimately fostering safe online spaces.
At the same time, a lively scripted role-play activity was taking place in a mock courtroom setting. Children took on the roles of judges, lawyers, litigants, platform staff, and court bailiffs, fully immersing themselves in a cybersecurity-themed scenario. Through interactive performance, they not only enjoyed the fun of acting but also gained valuable legal knowledge in an engaging and accessible way, strengthening their digital literacy and legal awareness.
This creative and educational event not only provided children with meaningful and memorable summer experiences, but also served as a reminder to parents to remain attentive to their children’s online safety during the school holidays, offering support and guidance to help their children grow up healthy, happy, and confident.
