To accelerate the whole-region development of a child-friendly city and form a synergy across society in caring for children, Beijing launched the “Me and My City” Child-Friendly Awareness Week during World Children’s Day on November 20. The campaign was organized by the Office of the Beijing Municipal Working Committee on Children and Women (BWCCW) in collaboration with district-level partners. It leveraged various media platforms and channels to promote the concept of child-friendliness and foster a social environment that prioritizes and supports children.

Lighting Up City Landmarks to Convey Warmth and Care

On November 20, World Children’s Day, the city launched the “Lighting Up the Future for Children” initiative. This initiative was coordinated by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management. Landmark buildings, including the Olympic Tower, the Wangjing SOHO cluster, Shougang Park, and the Canal Business District, were illuminated in vibrant colors and slogans such as “Build Dreams with a Childlike Heart for a Friendly Beijing” and “Safeguard Childhood, Light Up the Future.” These synchronized light displays outlined the evening skyline and reflected children’s dreams, instilling hope for their future. The initiative fostered a sense of social commitment to children’s development and the creation of a child-friendly city, showcasing Beijing’s “temperature of child friendliness.”

Promoting Outstanding Cases to Strengthen Synergies

This year, the BWCCW Office, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, launched the “2025 Beijing Child-Friendly Spaces and Child Observer Groups Outstanding Case Collection and Promotion Campaign.” The campaign collected more than 420 cases across four categories: child-friendly blocks, communities, activity bases, and child observer groups.

On October 18, the city hosted the 2025 Child-Friendly City Achievements Exhibition at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall. The event featured the release of a catalog showcasing outstanding child-friendly spaces and observer groups, shared exemplary cases, and promoted replicable experiences. During the exhibition, the Beijing People’s Procuratorate unveiled the “Guidelines on Leveraging the Juvenile Prosecution Function to Support the Construction of a Child-Friendly City.” The Beijing Society of Women Architects also released its group standard, “Guidelines for Planning and Building Child-Friendly Spaces.”

In addition, the event innovatively collaborated with Weibo’s Party Committee and Amap to launch the “V-View Child-Friendly City—Beijing Child-Friendly City Exploration Program” and the “Beijing Child-Friendly Map.” This partnership integrated social resources in new ways and helped build stronger collaborative momentum.

Multi-Channel Communication to Build a Supportive Environment

The BWCWC Office partnered with the Municipal Commission of Urban Management, the Beijing Major Railway Station Areas Administration, the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall, and Beijing Gehua CATV Network Co., Ltd. This collaboration aimed to broaden the reach and depth of child-friendly communication across multiple media channels.

Child-friendly promotional videos and posters were displayed on large screens at The Place (World Trade Plaza), R&F Plaza, Raffles City, Wangfujing APM, and LIVAT. They showcased achievements in child-friendly city development from the perspective of children. A month-long exhibition on child-friendly city development was held at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall. At the same time, an online version was launched on the “Beijing Women” WeChat account and the Beijing Women and Children Service Platform. Additionally, ten short videos presenting exemplary child-friendly projects were produced and widely shared online to raise public awareness and amplify their impact.

District-Level Collaboration to Build a Recognizable Child-Friendly Brand

During the awareness week, districts across Beijing organized a variety of child-friendly activities centered on five key action areas: children’s participatory practices, development empowerment, protection and care, service platform co-construction, and child-friendly publicity. These activities leveraged grassroots worksites and organizational strengths. They also created a shared platform that collectively shaped the “Me and My City” child-friendly brand.

Dongcheng District, in collaboration with Daming Optical, the Bank of Beijing, and other partners, hosted science popularization events, care services, and themed activities for children, building a network for child care services.

Xicheng District organized educational and interactive activities at Guangyang Valley Urban Forest Park and Guangyang Academy. The activities integrated child-friendly facilities with experiential events.

Chaoyang District hosted the “Towards the Future—Nurturing Growth in Five Friendly Dimensions” child-friendly event (including Policy, Space, Service, Care, and Atmosphere). The event honored outstanding child observer groups, showcased the Child-Friendly Alliance’s achievements, and partnered with multiple institutions to offer experiential programs.

Haidian District launched the “Smart Synergy for a Friendly Future” campaign. The campaign highlights achievements in creating a child-friendly city through videos, maps, and exemplary cases.

Mentougou District organized the “Ancient Poems, Children’s Voices—World Children’s Day Series.” The series used local cultural resources to help children appreciate classical poetry and literature.

Other districts also tailored activities to local characteristics, integrating resources to widely promote child-friendly promotional and care initiatives. Through multi-party collaboration, Beijing continues to advance the construction of a child-friendly city. From district-level efforts to citywide synergy, and from diverse activities to targeted services, Beijing is shaping its child-friendly urban landscape and fostering a brighter future for all children.
