On November 26, a fire broke out in several residential buildings in Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po district, New Territories, Hong Kong, causing heavy casualties. People across the country have expressed deep concern regarding the relevant medical treatment and resettlement of affected residents.
Following General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, the Beijing Women’s Federation responded swiftly to the call of the All-China Women’s Federation. With guidance from the Beijing Women’s Federation, the Beijing Women and Children Development Foundation urgently launched the charity fundraising initiative “Beijing and Hong Kong: Sisterhood in Action” to raise funds supporting emergency relief, transitional housing, and post-disaster recovery for families affected by the Hong Kong fire.
The initiative drew widespread support immediately after its launch. Officials and executive members of the Beijing Women’s Federation took the lead in donating, while various women’s federations across all districts quickly mobilized. Numerous women’s organizations actively participated in the campaign, including the Beijing Association of Women Entrepreneurs, the Beijing Women’s Association for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese, the Beijing Female Artists Association, the Capital Association of Women Professors, the Beijing Women’s Association of Science and Technology, the Beijing Women Architects Association, the Beijing Medical Women’s Association, the Beijing Young Women’s Christian Association, the Capital Women Journalists Association, the Capital Financial Women’s Association, and the Beijing Women’s Association for Foreign Exchange. Women’s committees of various democratic parties, women’s federations of universities, and many “Capital Most Beautiful Families” also made generous contributions.
Enterprises, such as IMEIK Technology Development Co., Ltd., fulfilled their corporate social responsibility by making generous donations, while the Women’s Federation of Xiushui Street mobilized a wide range of business owners to offer a helping hand. As of 15:00 on December 1, the Foundation had received donations totaling 1.949 million yuan. Each contribution embodies the collective compassion and solidarity extended to compatriots in Hong Kong. This joint action testifies to the strong sisterhood between Beijing and Hong Kong in times of hardship, and highlights the unity and strength of women’s organizations in the capital.
Women in Beijing and Hong Kong have long stood together, supporting one another through thick and thin. The Beijing Women’s Federation and the Beijing Women and Children Development Foundation will continue to monitor the progress of disaster relief efforts, gather broader social support, and help affected women and families in Hong Kong emerge from the shadows and rebuild their homes as soon as possible.
