On July 23, a delegation led by Ma Yan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Women’s Studies under the All-China Women’s Federation and Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Women’s Research Society, visited Beijing to review the work of the Women’s/Gender Research and Training Base. Zhao Hongwei, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and President, Vice President, and Level I Bureau Rank Official of the Beijing Women’s Federation, accompanied the delegation and chaired the symposium.

Ma Yan noted that 2026 marks the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, during which the Chinese Women’s Research Society is charting its course for the next five years. Through visits to 32 Women’s/Gender Research and Training Bases nationwide, the research team aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of their operations and development achievements, while engaging experts and scholars in exploring how high-quality research can drive the high-quality development of women’s and children’s causes.

She highlighted that the Beijing base boasts a profound academic heritage and an outstanding pool of experts, ranking among the nation’s leaders in research on women’s theory and family development. She urged the base to seize the opportunities presented by the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, relying on senior experts to guide young scholars in deepening the study and interpretation of the Party’s innovative theories. She also emphasized the need for problem-oriented research, enhanced policy advisory and outcome translation, the cultivation of a robust female research workforce, expanded channels for academic exchange, and the continued generation of high-quality research outcomes.

Zhao Hongwei provided a comprehensive overview of the Beijing Women’s Federation’s efforts in women’s research and training. Sun Xiaomei, President of the Beijing Society for Women’s Studies; Yan Shengwen, Research Fellow at the Women’s Research Center of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences; Xu Fan, President of the Beijing Family Education Research Association; and representatives from the Research Center for Chinese Women’s Culture at Capital Normal University presented updates on the base’s operations, academic research, and think tank functions. They also exchanged ideas and offered suggestions on the development plan for women’s studies during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Prior to the symposium, the research team visited the Beijing Women and Children Service Center, where they reviewed the base’s achievements and gained first-hand insight into Beijing’s practices in women’s research and training.

In recent years, the Beijing Women’s Federation has integrated research and training into its overall work agenda. Guided by the principle of “research as the prerequisite; foundation as the priority,” it has established a comprehensive framework for large-scale research and training. Spearheaded by the Women’s Development Research Center and the Women Cadres School, and supported by the Beijing Society for Women’s Studies, the Federation has coordinated with affiliated academic organizations, including the Beijing Family Education Research Association and the Beijing Marriage and Family Research Association. It has also collaborated with the Party School of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, and relevant universities, forming a women’s research and training network with distinctive Beijing characteristics.
