To promote the spirit of the Global Summit of Women, showcase the achievements of women’s development in China in the new era, and strengthen friendly exchanges between women in China and Germany, the Beijing Women’s Federation hosted a five-member delegation from Germany’s Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) on a visit to the Beijing World of Robots in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) on the morning of October 26. The delegation was visiting China at the invitation of the All-China Women’s Federation.

As the world’s first 4S store for embodied AI robots, the Beijing World of Robots integrates scenario demonstrations, interactive experiences and industry matchmaking. A representative from the BDA Women’s Work Committee first introduced measures supporting the development of female talent in science and technology, highlighting case studies of outstanding women leading research teams to achieve tangible results in robotics.

The delegation then toured the exhibition hall, watched demonstrations of various robotic products, and experienced firsthand innovative applications in home services, medical and elderly care, smart manufacturing, entertainment and interactive experiences. From coffee robots that customize latte art to suit individual preferences, to industrial robotic arms transforming traditional production modes and service robots designed for home use, each product captured the delegation’s attention and sparked lively discussion. Members of the delegation asked questions about technology research and development, commercialization, and how technology is changing family life.

Dr. Christiane Nischler-Leibl, Head of the Department of Women’s Policy, Gender Equality, and Prevention at the Bavarian State Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Affairs, was particularly interested in the robot named “Einstein,” asking which outstanding women had profoundly influenced him. “Einstein” responded in the first person, citing his first wife and Marie Curie as inspirations for his life. This creative interaction left a deep impression on the guests.

The delegation expressed sincere appreciation for the thoughtful arrangements and praised the rapid progress of China’s technological innovation. They spoke highly of Beijing’s policies encouraging women to participate in technological innovation and related industries.

Ulrike Schreyer, Vice Chair of the HSF and head of the delegation, noted that her first visit to China provided valuable insights into the country’s approaches to women’s development. She expressed hope that technological advances would help women break free from gender stereotypes. Coinciding with the German President’s state visit to China, the HSF is willing to seize the opportunity presented by high-level exchanges between the two countries to broaden dialogue, deepen exchanges on shared priorities such as empowering women through science and technology, strengthen people-to-people bonds, and drive women’s development in China and Germany.

Affiliated with Germany’s governing Christian Social Union (CSU), the HSF has cooperated with China for over four decades. The Beijing Women’s Federation and the HSF have maintained friendly exchanges and held discussions and field visits on topics of shared interest, including family services and women’s development in the digital age.

Using real-world technological applications as a lens, this visit vividly showcased Beijing’s achievements in technological innovation, as well as the significant contributions made by women. It also opened up new avenues for exchanges and cooperation between women in China and Germany.

Going forward, the Beijing Women’s Federation will continue to leverage Beijing’s strengths as an international center for exchanges and integrate industrial progress with women’s development to build platforms for dialogue and cooperation on women’s empowerment through science and technology, further promoting people-to-people diplomacy between women in both countries.
