Beijing Women's Federation

During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, a number of sanitation workers, also known as urban environmental workers, went all out to keep the venues and their surroundings, as well as urban roads, clean at all times. In November 2021, Beijing Women and Children Development Foundation worked with a public fund-raising website gongyi.yeepay.com to launch a monthly fund-raising project targeted at women sanitation workers. The project aimed to send goods to keep workers warm while working outdoors, including vacuum flasks, winter gloves and hand-warming gel. Since its inception, the project, which is called "Winter Gift Packages for City Beauticians," has raised funds of 162,024 yuan ($25,551.18) from 148 donations.

In early January 2022, the foundation purchased and distributed 900 gift bags to workers in Chaoyang, Haidian, Shijingshan and Yanqing districts who participated in the Games' venue cleaning.

Chaoyang District

Beijing Women's Federation, Chaoyang District Women's Federation, and Chaoyang District Women and Children's Charity Promotion Association jointly organized an activity on January 19, 2022 to give care to workers in the Chaoyang District Sanitation Center. Three hundred packages, which included vacuum flasks, gloves and hand-warming gel, were distributed to express heartfelt thanks for the workers’ hard work and exend holiday greetings to them.

Haidian District

Cadres from Haidian District Women's Federation visited Games service staff at the sanitation station of Haidian on January 19 and distributed 200 packages, including vacuum flasks, cotton gloves and hand-warming gel, in order to thank workers for their dedication to beautifying the environment and ensuring the smooth progress of the Winter Olympics. The district women's federation also called on them to continue their outstanding work to secure the service of the Games and make the city more beautiful.

Shijingshan District

Shijingshan District Women's Federation worked with the district sanitation center to deliver 200 packages of cold-proof materials raised by the foundation to women sanitation workers on January 26. The delivery was a way of saying thanks for the workers' contributions and unrelenting efforts in epidemic prevention and control, service guarantee of the Games, environmental improvement and promotion civilization.

Yanqing District

To celebrate the New Year and Chinese Lunar New Year of 2022, Yanqing District Women's Federation sent 200 gift packages that contained vacuum flasks, gloves and hand-warming gel to women sanitation workers across the district to show concern for women, children and families and give them best wishes for holiday.

The public fundraising project has resulted in many touching stories. For example, Gao Sumei, a board member of the foundation, mobilized the resident enterprises of the Dongyi International Media Industrial Park to participate in the project and raised 100,000 yuan ($15,770). Meng Lihong, vice president of the foundation, raised 20,000 yuan. Foundation Vice President An Zhongyan actively responded to the call for personal donations and also took the initiative to arrange for members of Beijing Women Entrepreneurs Association to donate money to the project.

Other members of the directors and supervisors of the foundation responded to the call for donations and expressed their respect and love for women sanitation workers. Many people have given warm wishes to the workers, and more support and attention is expected to be given to them.
