The meeting reviewed the outstanding achievements made by women in the capital's economic and social development. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), the development of women and children in Beijing has been outstanding. The enrollment rate of primary and junior high schools and the retention rate of nine-year compulsory education have been over 99 percent, far above the national target.
It was required at the meeting that women in Beijing should hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and rally more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core. Women's roles should be given full play in promoting virtues and passing down good family traditions and in accelerating the capital's development in the new era and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Women should prepare for the Party’s 20th national congress with concrete actions.
The meeting also said that women's federations at all levels must perform well their duties in guiding, connecting and serving women. The Party committees and government bodies should attach great importance to women's work, continue to strengthen leadership over the work of women's federations, and support their work in accordance with laws and charters.
Heightened efforts should be made to incorporate the protection of women's rights and interests into laws and regulations to make society more aware of the importance of protecting women's rights and interests. More supportive polices are expected to empower women's development and remove obstacles on the road to their development.
