A Glimpse of Stories behind People-to-People Exchanges

Women from all social sectors in the capital have written a splendid chapter through their participation in foreign exchanges.
Over the past few years, Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) has made full use of its special role to enhance the international influence of local women's organizations, make the stories of women and children better known abroad, and to support the capital city in building an international exchange center.
Sharing Beijing Experience and Commitment to Protection of Women's Human Rights
The BWF has done its utmost to showcase to the world the glorious achievements made by China in the protection of women's human rights and the improvement of their all-round development by following the path of socialist with Chinese characteristics.

The BWF sent a delegation of women from different social sectors to give speeches and present written reports on the comprehensive development of Chinese women at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) from 2020 to 2022.
During the Asia-Pacific regional forum on conflict prevention and the protection of the human rights of minorities, held on the sidelines of the 14th UNHRC Session in September 2021, a BWF delegation talked about the country's efforts to protect the lawful rights and interests of women in ethnic minority areas. In July 2021, BWF, the Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges and the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation organized a side meeting at the 47th UNHRC session with the theme of protecting women's rights and promoting high-quality development.

Officials from the BWF shared the capital city's experience and practices in the elimination of gender discrimination through education, science and technology at the third and fourth Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Women, a China-Russia symposium on women and a forum of outstanding women from China and Republic of Korea. BWF hosted an online dialogue between Chinese and Nepalese women in November 2021, to find solutions to common challenges faced by women in the two countries and to promote friendly exchanges between women from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Build International Exchanges Platforms, Support Women Worldwide to Seek Innovation-driven Development
The BWF has thoroughly implemented the Women's Action for Scientific and Technological Innovation: Beijing Action to support the city's endeavor to become an international sci-tech innovation center and build professional platforms for women sci-tech workers to display their talents and engage in exchanges. The BWF has redoubled its efforts to increase the international influence of Beijing as the host city of the fourth World Conference on Women, enhance the popularity of the She Loves Tech global startup competition, make the contest better known in the BRI countries and regions, and bring women worldwide together through sci-tech innovation.

The BWF has launched a campaign, on the theme “technology empowers girls,” among Chinese and foreign girls to help them become more interested in science and technology through classes and sci-tech innovation programs.
Children from home and abroad take part in events during the campaign to improve girls’ scientific literacy.
Create Brand Activities, Serve Women and Children
The BWF has closely positioned itself in the organization and expansion of the international influence of brand activities such as celebrating the International Day of Families together. Over the past three years, the celebrations of the International Day of Families focused on the Beijing Winter Olympics and were held both online and offline to create a positive atmosphere at home and abroad.

The BWF has organized ambassadors from 20 countries and representatives of international agencies to attend online dialogues on such topics as women, families and life. Chinese and Italian families have been invited to celebrate Spring Festival, share the two countries' family culture, and mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy.
Sponsored by the Mulan Power Charity Fund, a charity initiative to help impoverished Nepalese schoolgirls receive education was launched in 2018. So far, Chinese women have provided nine Nepalese girls with financial assistance in the completion of their high school studies and assisted several in pursuing further education in China. This initiative have been reported by the People's Daily as a typical case for international exchanges among women and children.

Make Women’s Stories Known, Portray the City's Image as Friendly and Lovable
The BWF has made full use of the Her Beijing international communication platform to promote the diversified development of communication channels, further enriched the content of its English website to help foreign readers learn more about women's development. The Her Beijing series documentary films have been produced to record the life and work of Chinese and foreign women in Beijing, and reflect the joint efforts made by Chinese and foreign families in the battle against COVID-19, and invited some Beijing Qiaoniang (Smart Lady) to hold interactions with netizens worldwide and teach traditional Chinese handicrafts.
