Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) held a meeting on March 28 at a township activity center in Chaoyang district to further advance the work on protecting the legal rights and interests of women. Chen Yanping, member of the Leading Party Group and vice-president of the BWF, attended the meeting and gave a speech. The event also brought together about 50 vice-presidents and directors of departments of district-level women's federations in charge of relevant work.
The meeting reviewed the work done by the women's federations in 2022 on protecting the rights and interests of women, and made arrangements for this year's work. It stressed that the women's federations should closely study and implement the newly revised Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women, make noticeable achievements in addressing domestic violence, regulate building of mediation organizations for the people, and intensify legal aid efforts.
In her remarks, Chen said that women's federations of all different levels in the city should thoroughly understand the economic and social conditions in the protection of the rights and interests of women, further bolster their political stance, enhance their sense of duty and awareness in the protection of women's rights and interests, fully grasp opportunities available and take into account new requirements and tasks in a drive to solve major and difficult issues. Chen also urged women's federations across the capital city to make great strides in institutional building on the protection of women's rights and interests, featuring the dominance of Party committees and governments, the improvement of existing mechanisms concerning the protection of women's equal employment rights, public-interest litigation and regular anti-domestic violence work, and to strengthen their capacity building in relevant work.
On the sidelines of the meeting, attendees toured the activity center to learn more about the township's practices in organizing grassroots workers to prioritize the collection of risk factors and criminal clues associated with domestic violence, sexual harassment, marriage and family disputes in the building of a peaceful environment. Moreover, they heard a report by Wangsiying Tribunal on its efforts to promote institutional building of professional hearing, the practice of a people-oriented judicial philosophy, the inclusion of diverse social forces in the protection of women's rights and interests, and the publicity of anti-domestic violence.
