Beijing Association for Women Scientists Holds Plenary Meeting
Date:2023-4-6 11:08:09 Views:The second plenary meeting of the first session of the Beijing Women's Association for Science and Technology (BWAST) was held recently at the Institute of Zoology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing.
Tan Hong, vice-president of the Beijing Women's Federation (BWF), Meng Fanxing, vice-president of the BWAST, and Liu Qingjun, vice-president of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology (BJAST), attended the meeting and presented certificates to group members of the BWAST. Li Jing, executive vice-president of the BWAST and a member of the 12th executive committee of the All-China Women's Federation, presented a work report on behalf of the BWAST.

In her speech via video link at the meeting, Gu Ying, president of the BWAST and an academician of the CAS, hailed the work of the association over the past year and called on women sci-tech workers to remain true to their mission, take part in the Beijing Action in the Women's Action for Scientific and Technological Innovation campaign, and contribute their personal wisdom and strength to helping the country achieve great self-reliance in science and technology.
Tan spoke highly of the achievements made by BWAST in uniting and leading women sci-tech workers to strengthen platform building for career development of sci-tech workers, the collaborative development among research institutions, universities and enterprises, women-oriented science popularization, talent reserves and professional services for sci-tech workers. Tan urged BWAST to comprehensively implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, live up to the due mission, carry forward sci-tech innovation, and write a glorious chapter for better serving women sci-tech workers.

The plenary meeting unanimously adopted an amendment to BWAST's constitution, the draft procedures of generating the list of members, a members’ list, financial report, work report and supervisory work report of the association in 2022, and elected new executive directors.
Last year, BWAST remained committed to serving women sci-tech workers and building Beijing into an international sci-tech innovation center; strengthened top-level design; expanded its business scope; organized multiple brand activities, such as a forum on women's collaborative innovation and an action to cultivate women college students' innovative spirit and improve their innovative capacity; and advanced the building of community-based science popularization centers and women-oriented science popularization bases.
The BWAST will strengthen its ideological and political guidance, intensify its development and management, redouble its efforts in the building of community-based science popularization centers and women-oriented science popularization bases, hold side events of the Zhongguancun Forum, and further advance a campaign on promoting the growth of women college students in innovation, laying a solid foundation for building the capital city into an international sci-tech innovation center. In addition, BWAST will fully leverage the roles of women sci-tech workers in Beijing and encourage them to integrate their pursuit of personal development with endeavors to further enhance the country’s sci-tech strength.
