Women’s Delegation from Hong Kong Visits Beijing

A 43-person delegation of women representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), paid a visit to Beijing from May 15 to 17. Headed by Jin Ling, president of Hong Kong Island Women's Association, the delegation visited Langyuan Station and China Red Sandalwood Museum, and had a meeting with Beijing Womens Federation (BWF).

Hong Kong Island Women's Association was founded in 2005 and its members have exceeded 30,000. It is dedicated to helping local women fully tap their potential, safeguarding womens lawful rights and interests, enhancing their comprehensive competence, carrying forward traditional Chinese culture and building Hong Kong into a beautiful place.

The delegation visited Langyuan Station, which is a newly emerging industrial park of the cultural industry in Chaoyang district on May 15. Zhao Yu, head of the industrial park and also executive member of the Chaoyang Women's Federation and part-time vice-president of the Women's Federation of Jianwai Sub-district, spoke with the Hong Kong delegation about its efforts to promote urban renewal and renovation and help women start up their own businesses.

Members of the Hong Kong delegation were deeply impressed with modern architecture, advanced design, and the integration between artistic and humanistic elements in the park. They highly praised the achievements made by the capital city in incorporating creativity into urban renewal projects and transforming an industrial complex into a vibrant cultural center.

The Hong Kong delegation visited China Red Sandalwood Museum, which is a demonstration base for women-oriented exchanges in the capital city, on May 17. Chen Lihua, head of the museum, and Zhao Li, vice-curator of the museum and also an executive member of the BWF, talked about their efforts to promote the intangible cultural heritage of sandalwood engraving and other fine traditional Chinese culture abroad. The exquisite techniques, profound cultural deposit and historic aesthetics of exhibited sandalwood products impressed the visitors a lot, who said that they will be committed to the promotion of traditional Chinese culture.

During a meeting with the Hong Kong delegation, Tan Hong, vice-president of the BWF, gave an introduction to the federation's central work and its efforts to strengthen ideological guidance and family building, promote women's development and people-to-people exchanges, and safeguard womens lawful rights as well as interests.

For her part, Jin talked about Hong Kong Island Women's Association's efforts to promote traditional Chinese culture, uphold patriotic stance and follow a down-to-earth approach to serve women, adding that the association will build a long-term cooperative partnership with the BWF and facilitate the exchanges between and development of women from the capital city and the SAR.

Members of the Hong Kong delegation said that the visit helped them enhance their love for the motherland, advanced sisterhoods between women from two places, and encouraged them to take part in the promotion of traditional Chinese culture and make Hong Kong's stories better known.

Those in attendance of the meeting also included officials from the Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Chaoyang Women's Federation.
