"The Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women, which took effect on January 1 this year, is a fundamental and guiding law to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of women, promote the practice of gender equality, and advance women's all-round development," said Wan Ying, deputy head of Huangcun Tribunal affiliated with Daxing District People's Court, when she talked about the law with villagers during a publicity and education gathering at Guicun village in Daxing of Beijing on the morning of July 11.
The event was attended by officials from the Legal Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Beijing Women's Federation, Daxing Women's Federation, Huangcun Women's Federation and Guicun Women's Federation. During the interaction with officials from the women's federations, local women said that they have found relevant posters and short videos at the village and on buses as well as in elevators.
Staff workers from the BWF's Legal Department said that these themed posters and short videos are an integral part of work done by the ACWF to strengthen the implementation of the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women.
The ACWF asked the women's federations nationwide to add the publicity and implementation of the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women to their eighth five-year plan on carrying out publicity and education to raise public awareness of the law, and carry out publicity and education activities in governmental departments, enterprises, schools, rural areas, residential communities, households and through the internet shortly after the law took effect.
In another circular, ACWF has urged women's federations nationwide to organize activities on raising public awareness of laws and make the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women reachable by grassroots women.
To further enhance the coverage and influence of relevant publicity and education activities, ACWF has invited well-known public figures like Zhang Guimei, Song Yushui, Liu Yang, Sa Beining, Luo Xiang and Xu Mengtao as publicity ambassadors, and produced high-quality short videos and advertisements. These resources have provided grassroots women's federations with valuable support in their publicity and implementation of the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women.
Therefore, BWF has carried out special publicity and education activities toward the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women in airports, railway and subway stations, residential communities, rural areas, and the internet-based platforms, in addition to organizing its staff workers to thoroughly read the law, holding lectures and conducting seminars over the law.
Statistics show that BWF has distributed 12,000 posters in eight transport centers and thousands of residential communities as well as villages, arranged the broadcasting of special advertisements on 11,000 sets of display screens in subway stations, elevators and buses, and released short videos of lectures via its WeChat account, gaining over 150,000 times of reading.
Moreover, women's federations in Beijing have convened over 10,000 public gathering, lectures and activities to promote the newly revised Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women, helping women learn more about the law, and cultivate sound social environment for women's development and the protection of their rights and interests.
