BWF Launches Activities to Care for Children During Summer Holiday

To deepen the study, publicity and implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), act on important discourses by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping on children and relevant work, and pool the strength of people from all social sectors to help children enjoy full love and care during the ongoing summer holiday, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and several departments jointly launched a campaign to care for children in this summer vacation. Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) recently kicked off activities to strengthen ideological guidance for children, ensure their safety and healthy growth, and offer them psychological support during the summer holiday.

1. Underscoring Ideological Guidance toward Children

The BWF and the lower-level women's federations in Beijing have closely followed the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating talents through education, organized multiple and colorful activities under the theme of guiding children to follow the CPC in the service centers for parents and children, exhibited outstanding entries in a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional competition on reading a book about the interactions between General Secretary Xi and the people during his domestic inspection tours, and invited delegates to the 20th CPC National Congress and Beijing's “most beautiful families” to visit urban and rural areas and share with parents and children about revolutionary stories. The activities aims to plant the seed of loving the Party, the country and socialism in the heart of minors.

The Women's Federation of Dongcheng District has integrated parent-child reading activities with theme tours in a move to help both parents and their kids better appreciate local historical and cultural knowledge and learn more about the district's endeavor to become a child-friendly place.

The Women's Federation of Haidian District has organized a series of lectures under the theme of carrying forward revolutionary traditions, and invited local families to take part in crafts making.

The Women's Federation of Shijingshan District has organized children to read revolution-theme illustration books and watch films on the theme of revolution.

The Women's Federation of Daxing District has invited local mothers to talk with their children about revolutionary stories so as to help minors develop strong affection for the Party and the country in their childhood.

To guide children to have a firm belief in making contributions to national rejuvenation, the Women's Federation of Huairou District has held a children-oriented artistic performance under the theme of singing an ode to the 20th CPC National Congress and conveying gratitude to the Party.

The Women's Federation of Pinggu District has organized local children to read and recite classical revolutionary books in a bid to plant the seed of patriotism in their hearts.

2. Protecting Children's Safety through Family Education Guidance

The BWF and the lower-level women's federations in Beijing have fully leveraged resources of community-based parents' schools, new media platforms owned by the women's federations, Capital Women Lifetime Learning platform and online schools for parents to hold a series of live-stream classes on family education, provide local families with professional guidance on how to help children grow healthily both physically and mentally, further improve parent-child ties and nurture future-oriented competence for children, and ensure physical safety of children in the summer holiday.

Beijing Municipal Service Center of Family Education has rolled out a series of special family education courses to provided professional guidance to relevant workers.

Beijing Municipal Service Center for Women and Children has held a series of lectures to help children stay far away from physical injuries and strengthen their self-protection.

The Women's Federation of Dongcheng District has held educational activities on the prevention and control of fire accidents for children.

The Women's Federation of Changping District has held lectures among families on the prevention and control of drowning accidents.

The Women's Federation of Daxing District has worked with Xihongmen-based emergency safety education center to carry out safety education toward children.

The Women's Federation of Mentougou District has held safety education lectures to further strengthen the prevention and control of various safety accidents among children in the summer holiday.

The Women's Federation of Miyun District has strengthened the publicity and education of disaster relief and first aid to further bolster children's protection.

The Women's Federation of Yanqing District has invited local families to take part in role-playing games, parent-child activities and crafts makings under the theme of bolstering children's safety awareness.

3. Improving Competence through Diverse Activities

The BWF and the lower-level women's federations in Beijing have made full use of social and cultural resources available to help children further enhance their mental and physical health, their science, aesthetics knowledge and work skills. They have organized various types of activities related to volunteer spirit, social work, education on the rule of laws, culture and arts, science and technology, and labor-related competence, convened colorful study tours, and hold a collection of parent-child reading activities in libraries and other public venues.

The Women's Federation of Xicheng District has organized parents and children to visit China Soong Ching Ling Science & Cultural Center for Young People and take part in sci-tech innovation activities.

The Women's Federation of Chaoyang District has sponsored youth-oriented study tours to enhance children's civility and science knowledge.

The Women's Federation of Haidian District has organized local families to take part in crafts-making activities, hoping to further strengthen parent-child ties.

The Women's Federation of Fengtai District has rolled out 40 episodes of courses to help children learn more about science and technology and further enrich their holiday life.

The Women's Federation of Daxing District has kicked off multiple activities to train children in reading, safety, science and technology, physical exercise and practical skills.

The Women's Federation of Shunyi District has worked with Beijing City University to produce over 30 episodes of special courses themed with cultural knowledge, innovation-driven development, virtue and health and offer the courses to families to ensure the safe and healthy growth of children.

The Women's Federation of Fangshan District has launched family-oriented study tours concerning intangible cultural heritage, traditional Chinese medicine, calligraphy and geological exploration to further expand children's horizon.

The Working Committee on Women in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Zone has organized parent-child reading activities to further increase children's interest in reading and help them develop fine reading habits.

4. Giving Care to Disadvantaged Children

The BWF and the lower-level women's federations in Beijing have organized their staff workers, executive committee members and volunteers to visit underprivileged children, learn about their life and study, and offer pairing assistance to target families in helping them tackle family difficulties. They have encouraged enterprises, village (residents) committees and social organizations to provide nursing services to those who have no time to stay at home and take care of schooling children in the summer holiday, continuously implemented the Spring Bud project and other public welfare initiatives, and organized volunteers as well as other charity-minded individuals to visit disadvantaged children and offer them psychological counseling as well as tutoring services.

The Women's Federation of Chaoyang District has sent to parentless children and other underprivileged minors daily necessities and products designed to help people stay cool.

The Women's Federation of Tongzhou District has invited professional workers to provide psychological counseling services and conducted home visit to children who need psychological intervention services.

The Women's Federation of Shunyi District has used facilities that promote family building, education and tradition and women and children’s service centers to extend love and caring to underprivileged girls and offer them safety education.

The Women's Federation of Huairou District has paid home visits to disadvantaged children and help their families solve concrete difficulties.

The Women's Federation of Miyun District has carried out the Spring Bud Project to provide disadvantaged girls with home visits, adolescent health classes and social practices in the summer holiday.
