BWF Holds Training Sessions for Presidents, Executive Committee Members of Grassroots Women's Federations

To further promote the study and implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and important discourses by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping on women's and children's affairs and the work of women's federations, strengthen capacity building for cadres of women's federations, enhance the ability of grassroots women's federations to guide and lead women, and better meet the requirements for the work on women's and children's affairs in the new era, the Department of Grassroots Organizational Building of the Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) and the Beijing Municipal School of Women Cadres jointly held two separate training sessions for presidents and members of executive committees of grassroots women's federations from July 5 to 7 and from July 10 to 12 respectively.

The training sessions were attended offline by 98 presidents and executive committee members of the township (sub-district)-level women's federations. Meanwhile, 12,361 presidents and executive committee members of the grassroots women's federations in 16 districts and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area took part in the training events via an online platform of the Beijing Municipal School of Women Cadres.

During the two training sessions, professors, scholars and officials imparted theoretical and practical knowledge to trainees and talked with them about work methods. The study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was listed as an utmost priority. Huang Guixia, a deputy researcher and PhD in management from the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC) affiliated with the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Liu Xiaohui, an associate researcher and PhD from the WSIC, gave an interpretation of important discourses by General Secretary Xi on women's and children's affairs and the work of women's federations to bolster the participants’ understanding of political theories. Li Ying, Zhang Rongli, Liu Chunling and Wang Xianmi, all associate-professors at China Women's University (the ACWF Executive Leadership Academy), held separate lectures related to the implementation of the basic national policy of gender equality, the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women, restraining orders over family violence, and women-oriented social work methods so as to help trainees better fulfill their duties. In addition, Xu Xin, a chief doctor and doctoral supervisor with Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine under Capital Medical University, talked about how to stay physical and mentally healthy in her lecture.

During panel discussions, trainees related personal work experiences to exchange ideas, forge consensus and they showed intense affection for women's affairs and the work of women's federations. At a side forum, some trainees shared what they learned from the training sessions, talked about typical cases and advanced experience in the workplace, and offered advice and proposals on further bolstering the ability of grassroots cadres.

The two training sessions achieved anticipatory results with sound curricular arrangements and flexible training methods. Attendees said that the events further expanded their horizon and vision and added that they would pool strength from what they had learned toward future work, perform their duties in guiding, connecting and serving women, make full use of the special roles of cadres of the grassroots women's federations, and celebrate the convocation of the 13th National Women's Congress with high spirit and enthusiasm.
