To further promote the study and implementation of the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), follow important discourses by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping on family, family education and family building, advance the publicity and implementation of the Law on Family Education Promotion, pool the strength of families, schools and the society toward education, and facilitate the building of the "114N" family education guidance service system in both rural and urban areas, Beijing Women and Children's Service Center (BWCSC) recently held a training among the capital city's staff workers and volunteers involved in family education guidance service. The training intended to bolster relevant personnel training and provide support to district-level organizations in terms of family education guidance service.

Follow Scientific Parenting Approach, Give Priority to the Cultivation of Virtue through Education

At the invitation of the BWCSC, Lu Shizhen, a professor with China Youth University of Political Studies, Tian Guoxiu, dean of the College of Teacher Education at Capital Normal University, Kang Xiaoming, an associate professor with the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Shengqiang, an associate professor with the Institute of Psychological Education at the University of International Relations, Yang Xia, a deputy researcher with Peking Union Medical College, and Wu Shen, president of Beijing Guangqumen Middle School Education Group, gave their speeches over fostering virtues through education and practicing scientific family education.

In their separate speeches, they talked about the understanding of the Law on Family Education Promotion and the improvement of the quality of family education to help the public grasp the essence of family education and foster virtue as well as fine moral toward children.

Centered on how to provide family education guidance services, a workshop was organized to deepen trainees' understanding of the implementation of coordinated education between school, family and society, as well as family education guidance. The workshop helped family education service providers better position themselves on the basis of mastering relevant content and methods. It also helped parents better cooperate with schools in children's education, made full use of social resources and leveraged the fundamental role of family education in training socialist builders and successors who are well developed morally, intellectually and physically.

The lecturers also provided professional guidance on such topics as "the impact of positive psychology on family education," "the psychological and behavioral development characteristics of children at different ages," "the interactions between post-materialistic value and family education," and "the influence of the family of origin upon children's growth." They encouraged parents to acquire effective communication skills, show respect to their children, and set up harmonious parent-child relationship, thereby preventing mental health problems among children from the source.

Cultivate Talents in Family Education Guidance Services, Support the Construction of "114N" System

Beijing has been driving the establishment of a "114N" family education guidance service system that covers both urban and rural areas, hoping to further improve family education guidance service at city, district, sub-district and community levels. This training drew the attendance of over 70 frontline workers and volunteers involved in family education guidance service from 16 districts across the capital city. The systematic and professional training on family education guidance deepened their understanding of family education, helped them better position themselves on the basis of fully grasping the content and methods of family education service work, and redoubled family education service capabilities of the four-tier guidance service institutions, and community and school-based parenting schools.

During the gathering, trainees conducted extensive discussions and exchanges on their understanding of family education, problems and challenges related to family education they often find in daily work and life, and approaches about how to offer effective guidance on family education. After the training, they will participate in volunteer work of family education guidance in different districts of the capital city, guiding parents to pay more attention to children's moral education and psychological well-being, and get involved in children's growth and development with scientific concept of family education.

Make Full Use of the Roles of Volunteers, Promoting Coordinated education between Family, School and Society

A group of mothers who serve as volunteers and the main force on the frontline of family education guidance services. They are community workers, lawyers, company employees and full-time mothers, and most of them have basic family education knowledge, show passion toward family education service and are willing to provide volunteer service at family education guidance centers and parenting schools at various levels. After the end of the training, attendees said that they benefited a lot, with their professional abilities in family education enhanced and personal understanding of the significance and value of volunteerism deepened. As mothers, they can not only manage well their own families but also help other families around them to engage in better family education and cultivate scientific parenting approaches.

This training event will promote the establishment of the mother volunteers’ team for family education. The team will assist family education service agencies at all levels, and community and school-based parenting schools in the supply of family education guidance service with scientific philosophies and professional force. It is also expected to further promote the participation of more families and parents in family education under the influences of volunteers, advance the popularization of the Law on Family Education Promotion, press ahead coordinated education between family, school, and society, see the all-round development of children, and make contributions to the cultivation of socialist builders and successors.
