About 3,000 Women Take Part in Running Event in Beijing

Fu Xiaohui, director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BOCDA), Chen Weihua, deputy director-general of the Publicity Department of the All-China Women's Federation, Zhao Hongwei, vice-president of the Beijing Women's Federation, and Feng Zhiming, a member of the standing committee and head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Changping District Committee, attended the running event and its awards ceremony.

The women-oriented running event is an important mass sports activity held on the sidelines of the 14th Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival. The 16-kilometer-long running event, which started and ended in the Seven-Hole Bridge, drew the attendance of nearly 3,000 people at home and abroad.
Attendees ran along the competition route of the triathlon event during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games and Mangshan National Forest Park, and around the Shisanling Reservoir.

The organizing committee presented awards to all runners and sent honorable medal and flowers to the last one who passed the finish line. Li Mengyuan, who attended the running event last year, said that she was delighted to take part in it again and that it was never easy for all participants to finish the marathon. She added that she was looking forward to joining again next year. Mohadeseh Barzegar Bafrouei, who comes from Iran, said that it was a privilege for her to attend the running event and that it helped her better grasp the spirit of the Olympic Games and she met many friends with common interests.

The Beijing Olympic City Sports Culture Festival was launched by the BOCDA in 2010. It is a brand project of the Olympic legacy as confirmed by the International Olympic Committee. As a partner member of the special festival, BWF has proactively invited women from different countries and Beijing-based women's organizations to attend, showcased the exchanges among women from China and other countries, and deepen their friendship through sports.
