Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered an important speech during a talk with the new leadership of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) in Beijing on October 30. Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for efforts to organize and motivate women to contribute their strength to Chinese modernization, and he stressed following a socialist path with Chinese characteristics for women's development.

General Secretary Xi's remarks has triggered heated discussions among women in Beijing. Some representatives of outstanding women said that they will shoulder the glorious mission in the new era, give full play to their strength and roles in the implementation of new development philosophy, the building of new development pattern and the promotion of high-quality development. They also vowed to contribute to the realization of greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology and the advancement of the rural revitalization strategy, and write a brilliant chapter in building China into a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation.

The important remarks by General Secretary Xi has provided fundamental guidance to the high-quality development of the cause of Chinese women's development, said Qian. She added that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have attached great importance on the work toward women and children and the country has made a large stride in improvement of women's and children's health since the Healthy China Initiative has been incorporated into major national development strategies. Qian said that as a pediatrician, she will work together with other medical personnel to guide children's development, protect their interests and rights and enlighten their future. She will strive to contribute wisdom as well as strength in advancing the implementation of the Healthy China Initiative and the high-quality development of pediatrics.

General Secretary Xi's speech, which bears great importance to theoretical and pragmatic guidance, will inspire women nationwide to strive for higher achievements on the new journey in the new era. Lu added that she will keep Xi's requirements in mind, stay focused at the workplace, carry out the basic task of fostering virtue through education, strengthen the collaboration among families, schools and the society on education, and write a glorious chapter in the building of Chinese modernization.

Noting that General Secretary Xi held high expectations toward women in his important speech, Nie said that she will cherish her life and work in this great era, deepen the study and implementation of Xi's important discourses concerning the work on women, children and the work of women's federations. She will devote herself to China’s modernization drive, make utmost efforts to promote the country's cultural prosperity, make the stories of China and Chinese women better known, and contribute to the cause of women's development.

Shen said that as a sci-tech worker, she was fully inspired by Xi’s remarks, adding that she will endeavor to play a larger role in sci-tech research, guide young people to become interested in science and technology, and make contributions to the country's sci-tech research and innovative development.

The important speech by General Secretary Xi has shown great care and high expectation toward women from the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, Ma said. Ma went on to say that she will keep Xi's requirements in mind, endeavor to be builders of the socialist cause, advocates of good social conducts and strivers who dare to pursue dreams and contribute to Beijing’s part in China’s modernization drive.
