Changping Holds Activities to Mark International Day of Families

To pool the strength of numerous families toward the country's modernization drive, Changping Women's Federation on May 19 held a series of thematic activities in Huilongguan Sports Park, in Changping District of Beijing, to celebrate International Day of Families. The event drew the attendance of 100 role-model families with about 400 people of both State-level and municipal-level most beautiful families, who showed their positive image in relevant activities.
In her speech at the opening ceremony, Ma Chunxiu, Deputy Mayor of Changping District, asked local families to further strengthen the exchanges and understanding among family members, foster an equal, respectable and inclusive family environment, and proactively take part in family-oriented activities.
Representatives of the National Most Beautiful Families read to the audience a letter of proposals that calls on the public to hold strong affection toward the Party and the country and carry forward family virtues in the pursuit of a better life.
The 5th Parent-Children Orienteering Running Contest was launched by the Changping Women's Federation on May 19. It has become a brand event held by the federation for family-related work and earned wide recognition from the public.
The running activity comprised such games as jumping and rope skipping. It also promoted the practices of trash sorting, and spoke out against family violence. Attending families engaged in closer interactions and showed their positive image in the practice of new socialist family ethics.
In addition, there were also other parallel thematic activities, which included the sales of personal items for charitable cause, an exhibition of art works on fine family traditions, and a reading activity.
Representatives of the most beautiful families brought personal books, stationery items and other daily goods for charitable sales and would use the earnings to support disadvantaged children.
Organizers displayed outstanding works on family values and traditions submitted by local families. Some calligraphy teachers gave professional instruction to attendees on the writing of family mottos in a move to further promote the building of a clean and frugal family environment.
The reading activity, which stresses children's education with the joint efforts of families, schools and society, also received high acclaim from participants. "The reading of the revolutionary story, titled a Letter with Feathers, is very good. My child is enthusiastic about revolutionary stories and that is why we come here. I think that all children should listen to relevant stories and foster their patriotism in childhood," said a father during an interview.
Family is the cradle of growth, the habitat of our emotion, and the foundation of social stability. In its next step, Changping Women's Federation will move ahead with the cultivation and promotion of new family ethics, select role-model families, and strive to be a pioneer in family-building work.
