"Little Guards of Northern Beijing" Cultural Festival Held in Changping District

To fully showcase the positive image of children, and welcome the arrival of the 74th International Children's Day, the district-level women's federation of Changping recently convened a cultural festival of "Little Guards of Northern Beijing" in Tiantongyuan Culture and Arts Center. The cultural festival brought together officials from Changping Women's Federation, Changping Working Committee on Caring for the Next Generation, Changping Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYL), and Changping Education Commission, as well as representatives of the so-called "Little Guards of Northern Beijing."
The "Little Guards of Northern Beijing" is a children-oriented volunteers' team launched by the federation in June 2018 and designed to promote the philosophies of health, environmental conservation, safety, arts and wisdom. During the past six years, it has organized over 2,000 volunteer activities in relation to community-level environmental governance and garbage classification and has become a leading brand concerning the work on women and children.
Thematic flags were presented to five volunteer service teams of children and teenagers in a move to further carry forward the volunteer spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual help and progress and encourage them to strive for higher achievements and shoulder new responsibilities.
The healthy growth of children and teenagers and the realization of their dream are inseparable from the collective efforts of senior people, who have showed great attention to the cause and taken concrete actions to help minors button the first button in their lifetime. Liu Rongdi, a retired teacher, a representative of the elderly volunteers and a member of the "Family Strength Alliance" think tank in Changping, called on children to proactively take part in practical activities, do things brick by brick and what they should and can do, become friends with those who are smart and kind, foster a correct worldview, outlook on life and values, and grow into a new-generation of people who are brave, confident, tenacious, intelligent, virtuous and competent.
Su Xiuyi, a primary school student and member of the "Little Guards of Northern Beijing," said that it is a great honor for her to be a member of the volunteer team and that she will always remain prepared to fulfill her duties and exercise positive impacts on people around her with concrete actions.
Noting that children are the future of the country and the hope of Chinese nation, Yan Mei, President of Changping Women's Federation, asked them to firm up their belief and resolve, study hard, and strive to be a new generation of young people capable of shouldering the mission of building a great modern socialist country and achieving national rejuvenation.
This year, Changping Women's Federation has launched an activity to help disadvantaged children complete their academic studies and enjoy a sound growth. During the cultural festival, the federation distributed bags filled with gifts among disadvantaged children.
At last, a group of children presented their artistic shows, which included traditional Chinese dances, literary recitation and traditional Chinese martial arts, to demonstrate the positive image of youths, winning warm applause from the audience.
In the midst of Beijing's endeavor to build a child-friendly city, Changping Women's Federation has closely positioned itself over the fulfillment of its obligations, made full use of its strength, focused on the building of a child-friendly city in terms of policies, services, rights, activity space and environment, and pushed for the cultivation of the child-friendly brand "Me and My City" in a drive to get people from all social sectors mobilized toward safeguarding the healthy growth and creating a bright future for minors.
In the next step, the federation will continuously take the "Little Guards of Northern Beijing" brand as a carrier to hold various publicity and education activities, advance the building of a child-friendly city, foster a social environment that put children first and show friendliness to them, and promote the formation of a social consensus that children are loved and respected.
