To fully promote new socialist family civilization, advance the building of harmonious families, sound family education and upright family value, inject new strength into and pool more family strength for the new journey, Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) recently held a lecture tour for honorary recipients of the Capital's Most Beautiful Families in the Jiaolou Library (in Zuoanmen, Dongcheng District).

Representatives of the Capital's Most Beautiful Families appreciated the capital city's history and culture and spoke about their stories in relation to the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage and the promotion of traditional culture.

Wang Xiumian's Family: Dedicate to Inheritance and Development of Duixiu

Many years ago, Wang knew Duixiu embroidery (a municipal-level intangible-cultural-heritage project in Beijing) by chance. Since then, she has persisted in the learning and research of the special handicraft and made noticeable progress in her techniques. Wang has opened a special Duixiu skills training class and sent her handmade products to foreigners as a representative gift of the capital city. She has often visited primary schools and taught students how to make Duixiu works. Wang has been dedicated to the inheritance and promotion of traditional Chinese culture and folk crafts.

During the lecture tour, she gave an introduction to eight Duixiu products that were made to support the capital city in the application for including the Central Axis into the World Heritage List, winning lots of acclaim from the audience.

Fan Xiaoqing's Family: Provide Wholehearted Catering Services to Customers

Fan is manager of Guiyuanli store of Beijing Bianyifang Roast Duck Co., Ltd and her husband Li Yang is the 22nd-generation inheritor of traditional closed-oven roasting technique. Fan has given meticulous care to her employees and wholehearted services to customers. She has firmly followed the principles of high-quality services, hard work and integrity, and helped customers better appreciate the charm of Beijing's cuisine culture through down-to-earth services.

During the lecture tour, Fan brought with delicious roast ducks and spoke with attendees about traditional methods of cooking the dish.

Xu Dong's Family: Write a New Chapter in Promotion of Traditional Chinese Qipao Culture

Xu is an inheritor of Beijing-style and Manchurian qipao (cheongsam) handicraft. Under the influence of her grandmother, she started to wear the traditional Chinese dress and learn qipao making craft at a young age. During the past decades, Xu has made lots of improvement of her qipao-production techniques and absorbed fashionable elements in a drive to make the traditional Chinese dress wearable at various occasions and loved by more women. Xu has held numerous rounds of training sessions, produced video courses about traditional Chinese dress culture, and given open lectures about traditional Chinese culture in many schools.

Xu said that she has received tremendous support from her husband, who has leveraged his professional knowledge to produce many videos about traditional Chinese dress culture. Moreover, Xu has taken part in the design of costumes and brooches for many international sports events, introducing traditional Chinese dress culture to the world.

Library Visit

Under the guidance of a guide, the "most beautiful families" toured around the Jiaolou Library, whose first floor hosted calligraphy and intangible-cultural-heritage works exhibitions. They learned more about traditional Chinese calligraphy's features and artistic charms.

There are 6,700 copies of various publications and copies of 100 types of journals available for readers on the second floor of the library.

In the next step, the Looking for the Capital's Most Beautiful Families campaign will continually hold lecture tours featuring the stories of exemplary families in residential communities, government departments, enterprises and schools, and make full use of special TV programs as well as online channels to showcase the positive images of relevant families, give full play to their demonstration roles, and ensure the pratice of core socialist values in families.
