In order to build an international language environment and human-cultural environment, advance the communication and blend between different cultures, and assist in the development of the capital into a world city, the Beijing Women’s International Exchange Center and the Juvenile & Children Reading Experience Wonderland cooperated and jointly held the second “Reading the World and Achieving Global Vision” – the capital’s family reading international cultural promotion campaign as of September 2014 after the successful holding of the first campaign at the Capital Library in November 2013, and extensive social influences were produced through various wonderful activities.
The capital’s family reading international cultural promotion campaign this time is focused on fostering a good atmosphere of family reading and the habit of parent-child book reading, to help the capital’s families broaden their horizons, learn about cultures of various countries in the world, and inherit China’s excellent traditional culture via books by means of the “family”-based campaign design. Supported by the Juvenile & Children Reading Experience Wonderland’s abundant resources of Chinese and foreign books, the campaign arranged diverse family reading experience activities such as picture-book illustrations exhibition, children’s drama, story-telling session, bookstore’s wondrous night etc, and drew lots of families in the capital to take part.
Especially, the activity of “Picture Book Wondrous Night” is launched during the capital’s family reading international cultural promotion campaign this time, and successfully held at the Juvenile & Children Reading Experience Wonderland on 25 October. The activity takes the “aliens” (popular with children) as the theme, prepares a series of Chinese and foreign picture books and performances, invites children and their parents together to the bookstore on the weekend night, and all members of families together pitch tents, watch children’s dramas, listen to stories, read picture books, and appreciate music. Both children and parents approve of such novel and lively family experience-type reading activities, and especially children repeatedly and excitedly ask when they can experience the happy time of sleeping over in a bookstore again. This “Picture Book Wondrous Night” bookstore sleep-over activity is not only the first bookstore family sleep-over activity in China, but also a characteristic item of the “Reading the World and Achieving Global Vision” – the capital’s family reading international cultural promotion campaign, and will have continuous innovations in mode and content, to provide richer reading activities for the capital’s families.
The current “Reading the World and Achieving Global Vision” – the capital’s family reading international cultural promotion campaign will run until December, and there will be more international cultural promotion activities focused on the family theme at that time, which will create a harmonious, friendly multicultural communication atmosphere for the capital.
