On the morning of July 27, Beijing Women's Federation received friendly visit of Mrs. Gertrude Mongella, secretary-general of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, and two assistants in Huairou District.
Mrs. Mongella is a famous educator, politician, diplomat and social activist in Tanzania. As an active advocate and participant of women's movement, Mrs. Mongella was secretary-general of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, and founded the non-governmental organization "For the African Women" in 1996 and served as the chairwoman. Mrs. Mongella was to learn more about development progress of Chinese women's career over the 20 years, and deepen the communication and contact with women's organizations in China through this visit.
Zhou Zhijun, vice chairwoman of Beijing Women's Federation, extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Mrs. Mongella on behalf of Beijing Women's Federation, introduced the many diversified commemorative activities such as forums, exhibitions, performances, etc. held by Beijing Women's Federation, and also accompanied Mrs. Mongella on the visit to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women Huairou Memorial Park. Mrs. Mongella said that she was very happy to have the chance to return Beijing again to witness the development and progress in women's career in China over the 20 years, and that she believes that, with our joint efforts, women around the world will surely achieve empowerment and equality. Both sides expressed the decision to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with women's organizations around the world in the future, so as to provide important help for development of women's career together.
Zhao Hongju, deputy director-general of International Department of All-China Women's Federation, deputy secretary of Huairou District, Xiao Youmao, secretary of Huairou District Politics and Law Committee, Wang Baoqin, then-chairwoman of Women's Federation of Huairou District, director of Women's Federation of Huairou District, director of Beijing Women's International Center, etc. also accompanied in the visit.
