On the afternoon of September 17, Beijing Women’s Federation received a delegation of seven members led by Edna Madzongwe, President of the Senate, Zimbabwe at Beijing Women and Children Social Service Center, accompanied by Zhen Yan, Deputy Director of the CPPCC Committee for Social and Legal Affairs.

Edna Madzongwe paid this goodwill visit to China at the invitation of Yu Zhengsheng, CPPCC Chairman of China. She had attended the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing with Zimbabwe's women delegation in 1995. Her visit this time aimed at learning about the development and progress made by Beijing smart ladies and Beijing women and deepening the exchange with the women organizations in Beijing.

Zhao Lijun, Vice Chairwoman of Beijing Women’s Federation extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of Beijing Women’s Federation and accompanied them to visit Beijing Women and Children Social Service Center. Edna Madzongwe fondled admiringly the exquisite and diversified handicrafts created by Beijing smart ladies and was highly interested in promoting the exchange and cooperation on workmanship between the two countries. Also, she expressed the wish to establish friendly ties with Beijing Women’s Federation and learn from each other on handcrafts, for the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding, promoting the sister friendship between the women of both countries and achieve common development. Zhao Lijun gave the gold mosaic works created by Beijing smart ladies to Edna Madzongwe as gifts, in the hope of strengthening cooperation and maintaining the long-lasting friendship between the women of the two countries.

Other officials attending the visit included Qian Fang, Associate Counsel of the General Office of the CPPCC Foreign Affairs Council, leaders of Guard Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, Beijing Women and Children Social Service Center and Beijing Women’s International Center, etc.
