The China finals of the 2nd Ascendas Singbridge Her Startup competition, focused on the theme of women's sci-tech internet businesses, was rounded off June 18 in Beijing.
The competition was jointly organized by TechBase, an accelerator for women's sci-tech startups, Lean In China, a mutual aid platform for women's career development, SoGal, a venture investment group for young women, and Kr Space, a platform for startup services, under the guidance of Beijing Women's International Exchange Center.
Around 200 people participated in the event, including those from Chinese and overseas female startup teams, media organizations, and those interested in startups in general.
This year’s competition started out in five areas of China, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shenzhen. Hundreds of women's startup teams entered, and finally, 12 were selected to compete in the national final, which covered sectors such as design, travel, health and maternity and baby goods.
Finally, five teams won first prize in the latest heat, and they will progress to Silicon Valley in the U.S. for the international finals. There they will get the chance to participate in a Silicon Valley entrepreneurship training camp, and learn advanced studies from a U.S. MBA program.
Zhou Zhijun, vice-president of Beijing Women's Federation attended the Beijing event, and delivered a speech before the competition. She expressed pleasure at seeing the development of the startup competition, and attracting more entrepreneurial women to participate.
Zhou said in her speech that Beijing Women’s Federation has always been supportive of women who make innovations or start up their own business by integrating quality resources from both China and abroad. As a platform, the federation has brought about many advantages, since women can greatly contribute to economic and social development and can realize their own personal values.
In 2015, the first Her Startup competition was held in the capital and directed by Beijing Women's International Exchange Center. It attracted over 100 native and foreign startup projects, and gained 50 million yuan (U.S.$ 7.47 million) of financing.
