Wife of Ban Ki-moon Visits Beijing Women and Children Social Service Center

Yoo Soon-taek, wife of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, visited Beijing Women and Children's Social Service Center recently. There, she learned about the efforts Beijing Women’s Federation has taken in providing services for women and children in the capital.

Zhou Jing, vice-president of Beijing Women’s Federation, extended her warm welcome to Yoo, and accompanied her to visit several exhibition and activity rooms themed around such services as rights protection, entrepreneurship, employment and family education.

As the visitors arrived at the training area, they witnessed women taking lessons in housekeeping, as well as how to feed a baby and a variety of related nursing practices.
Yoo said she commended the center on providing a complete range of facilities and quality training. She also applauded the one-stop service model of providing labor skills training and encouraging re-employment among women.

In the Service Hall, Yoo listened to an introduction to the specific content of services provided by the center. When she heard about the service of comprehensive rights protection, she inquired as to how could women get such services in a timely and efficient manner. Zhou explained that women who needed help could dial the special “12338” hotline for women's rights services, talk directly to a consultants and get effective assistance.

At the Multi–Function room, community residents were taking a dance training course. Yoo joined them and studied their dance moves with interest. She talked to residents and learned that most residents have participated in activities in the center for many years.  Yoo said she wished the women could always be young at heart and bring vitality to people around them.

Staff from the International Department of All-China Women's Federation, Beijing Women and Children Social Service Center, Beijing Sanba Service Center, and Beijing Women's International Exchange Center also attended the visit.
