Beijing Women’s Federation Receives Delegation from Japan
Officials from Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF) received a delegation of 16 visitors from the Japanese Gunma Women's Association (JGWA), on October 19. The delegation was headed by Yamada Shiakiko, president of the association.
The two sides jointly held the China-Japan Women's Seminar on the theme of "Women's Health and Prolonging Healthy Lifespan" to mark the occasion. Moreover, delegates carried out cultural exchange and shared experiences with each other.
Founded in 1981, JGWA is a grassroots women's organization established in the prefecture of Gunma in Japan. Later, Gunma county government entrusted the organization to formally undertake the responsibility of organizing, liaison and management of women's foreign exchanges.
The association has a history of friendly relations with China. The association has organized several visits to China, and the visiting delegations have been received by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and BWF. The association organized fundraising activity for disastrous areas after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
At the Seminar, Yamada introduced problems caused by a super-aging society in Japan. Chinese and Japanese women participants made presentations and exchanged ideas on women's health and prolonging healthy lifespan.
After the discussion, members of the delegation taught other participants a simple and easy oral exercise, and suggested others to practice everyday for keeping mouth muscles healthy and chewing ability. Later, the delegation visited a traditional teahouse to experience China's tea culture.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the No.93 Courtyard Museum. Thanks to Xicheng District Women's Federation, exhibitions, sales, trainings and other activities have been launched in the museum for helping women in the Smart Lady Scheme to preserve China's intangible cultural heritage. Thus it has actively promoted women’s employment.
The delegation visited an exhibition on intangible cultural heritage, and tried their hands drawing the Lord Rabbit, an intangible cultural heritage in Beijing.
After the activity, members of the delegation said they had achieved a lot, not only in the exchange of practices for promoting women's health and prolonging the healthy life, but also in their understanding of the role played by women in the inheritance of non-legacy cultures.
The visitors expressed hopes to continue to maintain friendly contacts and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with BWF in the future.
Officials from the Liaison Department of BWF; Beijing Women International Communication Center; and, Xicheng District Women’s Federation accompanied the delegation during the gathering.
