To promoting international cultural exchange and show off women’s style in the capital, Beijing Women's International Exchange Center (BWIEC) and the Overseas Communication Center of the newspaper Guangming Daily recently initiated an event series called Listen to the Smart Lady and Feel Chinese Culture.
The activity involves female representatives from different sections of society in the capital, to tell their stories and spread Chinese culture on the Guangming Daily Facebook account.
Three programs on the theme of “Beijing intangible cultural heritage” have been launched so far, including episodes on painted clay rabbit figurines sculptures, Beijing painted china and Cao’s kites, attracting nearly 1.5 million hits.
A fourth program in the series, “Beijing Smart Lady” was launched at Tianqiao folk craft workshop, an exchange demonstration base for women in Beijing, and was broadcast worldwide. The program attracted 400,000 Chinese and foreign netizens’ attention and support.
Zhao Wei, an inheritor of an intangible cultural heritage, and one of the so-called “Beijing Smart Ladies”, was invited to tell her story in the online broadcasting. She painted color eggs together with the series host, and told the story of her inheriting and innovating egg painting for more than four decades.
Since the beginning, the series has become popular on the Guangming overseas communication platform, and has received hundreds of thousands of comments from netizens. Some said that initiative has left deep impression on them and expressed a wish to understand even more about Chinese culture through the program in future.
