The sixth event of this year's Experience Chinese Culture with Smart Lady activity was held on November 23 at the Wang Huiru Workshop in Songzhuang, Tongzhou District of Beijing.

Wang Huiru, an inheritor of the ancient Chinese craft of Beijing-style carved lacquer ware making, presented her work to audiences via a live-stream and shared her story of carrying forward the intangible cultural heritage.

Carved lacquer ware occupies an important place in the extensive canon of traditional Chinese handicrafts. It originated in the Tang Dynasty (618-906), matured in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and witnessed great prosperity in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The Beijing-style carved lacquer ware has sustained the royal court style of the Qing Dynasty and is largely immune to moisture damage, heat, acid, deformation or deterioration.

It is regarded as one of Beijing’s top four ancient crafts, alongside cloisonné, ivory carving and jade carving.

Statistics show that some 10,000 users gave "likes" to this program on Facebook and nearly 200,000 worldwide watched the program. Many were impressed by Wang’s techniques and voiced their wiliness to learn more about the stories of Chinese women.

The series event was jointly launched in 2016 by Beijing Women’s International Center and the International Communication Center of Guangming Online (GO). At the event, women from various sectors tell their story, through the Facebook account of GO, of promoting intangible cultural heritages and participating in the Looking for the Most Beautiful Families campaign. So far, the series have drawn 6.2 million hits from both home and abroad.
