Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) received a delegation of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) on November 30 in the Women and Children's Activity Center in Haidian District.
The 18-person delegation, headed by Umaru Koroma, general secretary of SLPP, visited Beijing to learn about local women's development.
BWF Vice-President Zhao Haiying welcomed the delegation on behalf of the federation. She explained how the women's federation makes full use of its unique role in linking the Party with women and providing women with convenient services.
She shared the federation's experiences in supporting women to start their own businesses, protecting women and children's legal rights and interests, and promoting the construction of civilized families.
In addition, Zhao said the federation has made achievements in improving relevant mechanisms to serve women, carrying out international exchanges and communication and encouraging women to participate in the administration and discussion of state affairs.
Koroma expressed praise for the work carried out by the local federation in protecting women's rights and interests and promoting gender equality.
A representative from the regional women's federation of SLPP briefly introduced the structure and condition of the party's women's organizations and women in its jurisdiction.
The delegates later visited various skills training classes on dancing, tea ceremony, weaving, cooking, Peking opera, early education and family education at the center. They paid close attention to the cooking and sewing classes as well as the Smart Lady handicrafts workshops.
Officials from both sides hoped to enhance the communication between China and Sierra Leone and implement the FOCAC Beijing Action Plan (2019-2021).
Both the countries should strengthen cooperation in gender equality and women's empowerment so as to build a closer community of shared future for women in China and Africa, officials said.
Other participants at the gathering included officials from the Beijing Women's International Center and Haidian Women's Federation.
