Women of the World Festival Beijing Event Kicks Off
Beijing Women's International Center and China Dream Live Entertainment, a Shanghai-based cultural development company, co-organized the Beijing event of the Women of the World Festival on December 9 to provide a new communication platform for ambitious local women.
Some 100 representatives from home and abroad, including female college students and journalists, attended the event.
The event included a series of talks, mentoring sessions, workshops and keynote speeches, the theme of which was "Empowering Women, Empowering the Future".
During a mentoring session, organizers invited dozens of tutors who were experienced professionals and who have happy family lives to offer individual solutions for young women.
Organizers also invited several prominent women, who were Shen Xiaocen, an artist, Chen Sian, a novelist and director, Yan Yan, a manager from Today Art Museum and Zhang Meng, founder of Hypervic Coffee and a winner of Beijing March 8 Red-banner Holder award, to give speeches about women's power in families and society.
Later, participants enjoyed a performance given by the cast of China version of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia!
The festival, also known as WOW, is a global movement launched in 2010 to celebrate the achievements made by women across the world, make women's voices heard and discuss women-related topics. It was initiated by Jude Kelly, artistic director of London's Southbank Centre.
In the past eight years, the festival has been held in 20 cities across five continents. More than one million people have participated in the influential cultural gathering for women.
China joined in this big family last year and the Beijing event of the festival will be held annually so as to provide an exchange platform to promote communication between women in Beijing and other countries.
