Officials from Beijing Women Federation (BWF) received a 14-member Japanese government delegation at Dongcheng District Cultural Talents (International) Pioneer Park in Beijing on January 10.

The group was led by Satsuki Katayama,Cabinet Minister of State for Regional Revitalization and Women's Empowerment. The meeting aimed to help the visitors gain an insight into the situation in Beijing in terms of promoting women's participation in economic construction, social development and political decision-making.

Zhao Haiying, vice president of BWF, extended a warm welcome to the Japanese delegation on behalf of the federation. She reviewed the friendly exchanges between BWF and people from various walks of life in Japan, briefly introduced the practices and experience of BWF in promoting women's participation in politics, boosting women's entrepreneurship and employment, and promoting women's participation in social governance innovation, with a focus on sharing BWF's work initiatives in promoting women's development.

Katayama also introduced women's career development in Japan. Unlike China, she said, there are fewer Japanese female entrepreneurs, and women in her country are still accustomed to working in enterprises for long-term business services. The ratio of female senior managers in large enterprises is even lower, she explained.

Currently, the Japanese government is working on enhancing the social status of women, and plans to significantly increase the proportion of women leaders in enterprises by 2020.

Following the talks, the delegation visited Dongcheng District Service Center for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, which provides professional services for the Pioneer Park, as well as two enterprises set up by female entrepreneurs in the Park, Atmosphere Group (Beijing) Culture Co. and Jiang Jiang Tea Academy.

Attendees of the reception included the head of the Asian Branch the Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation, as well as leading officials from Beijing Women's International Center and Dongcheng District Women's Federation.
