BWF Hosts 2019 Int'l Women's Day Gathering for Chinese, Overseas Women

Beijing Women's Federation (BWF)hosted the 2019 International Women's Day Gathering for Chinese and Foreign Women at Beijing International Hotelon the afternoon of March 6.

The event was attended by Filomena Dos Sanios, ambassador of Angola to China; Tania Romualdo, ambassador of Cape Verde to China; ambassador of Grenada to China Abbie David; ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to China BaktygulovaKanaiym; and, the wives of ambassadors of more than 10 countries including Algeria, Oman, Egypt, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Qatar, Cote d'Ivoire, Georgia, Cuba and Senegal.

The gathering also drew local diplomats and their wives from embassies of 49 countries, along with local female representatives from all walks of life, including Beijing's female municipal leaders, female leaders of business establishments and mass organizations, and representatives of women's committees of institutions directly under the CPC Central Committee in Beijing.

Representatives of women's committees of democratic parties and organizations, female deputies to the NPC, female members of the CPPCC, representatives of women's social organizations, and representatives of national and municipal women pacesetters also joined the event, with the aim to forge close ties, boost practical cooperation and celebrate the occasion.

CaiShumin, Member of the Secretariat and the Leading Party Group of the All-China Women's Federation, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and President of the BWF, extended holiday greetings to Chinese and international women present at the gathering, and briefly reviewed the achievements that BWF has made over the past 70 years since its founding.

CaiShumin said that in the future, BWF would continue to focus on the further aim of developing Beijing into an international exchange center, and actively respond to President Xi Jinping's initiative of "promoting the all-round development of women, building a better world for all", as proposed at the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment. Furthermore, the federation will work in collaboration with women of all nations to forge a brighter future.

Afterwards, amidst a festive atmosphere, representatives from Beijing Sport University (a member of the Capital Female Professors Association), Beijing Women and Children's Development Foundation (BWCDF), Beijing Female Artists Association, the Aiwuhen Burn Rehabilitation and Care Center, the Center for Chinese Ritual Studies of Tsinghua University, among other organizations staged spectacular performances for attendees.

The climax of the performance was the presentation of "Abundance of Spring", a traditional Chinese painting jointly created by Chinese and international representatives.

Following the performance, international guests exchanged warm greetings and established contact with female representatives from different sections of society in the capital. Through visiting the Beijing Women's Work Show Area, they gained a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the type of international exchange activities conducted by BWF in recent years.

Throughout the event, Chinese and international guests interacted with female crafts experts in person and thereby experienced the charm of Chinese traditional arts and handicrafts.

Zhao Haiying, vice president of BWF, presided over the gathering. Attendees also included Li Zhaoling, vice director of the Standing Committee of the 13th Beijing Municipal People's Congress and Honorary Director of BWCDF;Sun Jie, Member of the Standing Committee of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, Chairwoman of the Committee of Ethnic, Religious, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, also director of the Office of Ethnic, Religious and Overseas Chinese Affairs of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress.

Further guests included Wang Hong, Member of the Standing Committee of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, Member of the Supervisory and Judicial Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and deputy director of the Internal and Judicial Affairs Office of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress; Zhang Qian, executive vice president of Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Beijing NGO Association for International Exchanges; Zhao Hongju, deputy director of the Liaison Department of All-China Women's Federation; and, Hu Yixiong, assistant to the director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.
