In order to publicize the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the achievements of the People’s Republic of China since its establishment 70 years ago, as well as to share Chinese women’s stories and deepen the friendship between Chinese and foreign people, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Beijing Women's Federation organized the wives of the ambassadors to China to visit Beijing's residential communities.
On November 21, as the first of the visits, wife of Iranian ambassador to Chinaand some 20 people visited the Women's Home in Chaoyang District. Through an overview given by the head of Tuanjiehusub-district office, visitors learned about women's work in sub-district, community and social organizations and how women play their role in the participation of political affairs, maintaining public security, environment management, poverty alleviation and more.
In Si Kunfanstudio, the visitors were told how Si Kunfan, winner of the Nightingale Medal, serves the elderly. Si was the first volunteer of Beijing Red Cross Society and head nurse of surgical department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. After she retired, she has offered voluntary services to 9,700 elderly people, which won her 64 honorary titles. Her story has been reported by media about 300 times. Many
As the first volunteer of the Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch, Si, a retired head surgical nurse formerly at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, used her professional advantages to provide voluntary service for more than 9,700 elderly people. With her influence, many people joined in the volunteers teams which offered various services including chat, haircut, medical checkup and catering. The teams have won recognition of local residents and the spirits of the volunteers impressed the visitors.
In Smart Lady studio, the foreign guests praised the delicate and vivid handicrafts made by local women and learned some knot making skills. They also learned about how the studio helps local unemployed women solve their problems of flexible employment at home by providing training and giving priority to women's employment.
In the children’s home, the foreign guests watched an early education course. The head of local women’s federation explained how the sub-district's administrative departmentprovided professional early education services for community residents by purchasing services from qualified social organizations, offering services at prices well below the market price to help working women solve child-rearing problems.
In the dancing, foreign language, singing and drawing classes, most students or teachers were retired women. They displayed their works to the guests who were impressed by their passion and willingness to provide better community management service through skill learning.
The wife of the Iranian ambassador to China said that the visitof the residential community gave her an in-depth understanding of the situation of China’s women and children and that she learned many effective ways to promote the development of women and children.
Zhao Haiying, Vice President of Beijing Women's Federation, said that the federation,as the women's organization in China’s capital, has been engaging in friendly exchanges with women and women's organizations from all over the world. It has launched a number of international exchange brand activities, such as “International Family Day for Chinese and Foreign Families”. Zhao hoped the foreign guestslearned more about Chinese women throughthevisit and was looking forward to greater communication and cooperation with Iranian women's organizations.
The visitors included Lu Yamin, Deputy Director-General of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) Liaison Department, Li Guohong, Deputy Mayor of Chaoyang, head of the West Asia and Africa Division of the ACWF Liaison Department, and officials from Beijing Women's International Center and the Women's Federation of Chaoyang District and Tuanjiehu Sub-district Office.
