“Happy Family” Initiative: Beijing Launches 2025 Family Education Initiative with First “Weekend Family Day” Event
Date:2025-4-28 11:16:59 Views:Focusing on promoting the physical and mental well-being of children, the Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF), in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, the Office of Beijing Civic Enhancement Committee, and the Committee for Organizations Directly under the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, officially launched the 2025 “Happy Family” initiative, featuring a series of family education activities to help parents better understand child development, strengthen parent-child relationships, and foster supportive home environments that foster children’s holistic growth.
On April 26, the launch ceremony and the first “Weekend Family Day” event took place at the theater of the Capital Library of China. The event was attended by leaders from the Department of Family and Children’s Affairs of the All-China Women’s Federation, representatives of the organizing bodies, and about 650 participants, including grassroots federation members, educators, media professionals, and the public.
The event opened with a heartwarming video, My Family’s Happy Moments, showcasing joyful scenes of family life through the eyes of children that resonated deeply with the audience.
One of the highlights was the release of the Beijing Top 100 Family Destination Guide. This carefully curated guide, divided into four themed sections—museum explorations, literary spaces, park adventures, and sports and cultural venues—features 100 distinctive destinations across Beijing and is designed as a family-friendly travel companion, encouraging intergenerational bonding through shared exploration and experiences.
During the event, a student representative shared their excitement: “I can’t wait to go boating at the Summer Palace with Mom and Dad—feeling that cool breeze makes everything perfect!” Another child, speaking about a visit to the 798 Art District, said they were looking forward to taking cool photos with their parents.
In addition to family outings, shared reading stands as another key pillar of meaningful parent-child connection. Celebrating World Book Day for the fourth consecutive year, the BWF unveiled a curated list of 20 children’s books, selected by experts in child psychology, education, and publishing to provide families with evidence-based guidance on nurturing young minds through literature.
Parents at the event reflected on their family reading traditions. One mother shared warmly, “When my child was little, I read bedtime stories every night. We still do it to this day!” A father added thoughtfully, “Through reading together, my child not only learns new things but has also become more comfortable sharing thoughts with me.”
The event reached its climax as falling puzzle pieces animated the stage, officially launching the 2025 “Happy Family” initiative.
Family is a child’s first school, and parents are their first teachers. The “Happy Family” initiative celebrates the role of loving homes in creating the ideal environment for a child’s development, where quality time together becomes the greatest gift parents can offer. [] Following the launch, organizers will roll out five flagship “Weekend Family Day” events across May and June, designated as Family Values Promotion Month. These events are: “Watch Together,” offering a theater performance on children's psychology; “Explore Together,” featuring tours along the Beijing Central Axis; “Play Together,” offering family sports day activities; “Learn Together,” providing hands-on farming experiences; and “Create Together,” featuring workshops on intangible cultural heritage. [] Designed with care, these experiences aim to strengthen family bonds through shared adventures and reading, fostering mutual growth.
Sign-up details for the “Weekend Family Day” events will be released on the official Weixin account “Beijing Women” (北京女性). Stay tuned and be part of these unforgettable experiences!
Right after the launch ceremony, the inaugural “Weekend Family Day” event took place, featuring Let Life Shine Like Sunshine—a heartwarming theater performance on children’s psychology that resonated deeply with every family present.
