To thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and subsequent plenary sessions, and to study and implement President Xi Jinping’s important remarks on the importance of family values, family education, and family traditions, Beijing officially launched the “The Most Beautiful Family Traditions Nurture Every Household” Beijing Initiative on May 16. Held in the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), the campaign aims to carry forward exemplary family traditions and foster deep patriotic values.

The launch ceremony for the 2026 Beijing Family Values and Family Education Campaign was jointly organized by Beijing Women’s Federation, Beijing Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, Organization Department of CPC Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Publicity Department of CPC Beijing Municipal Party Committee, the Capital Civilization Office, the Municipal Working Committee for Party and Government Offices, the Municipal Education Commission, and the Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.

More than 200 participants attended the event, including Xu Xu, Director of the Family and Children Work Department of the All-China Women’s Federation; Zhou Zhijun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of Beijing Women’s Federation; He Qun, Deputy Secretary and Level I Bureau Rank Official of the Municipal Working Committee for Party and Government Offices; Wang Yining, Level II Bureau Rank Official of the Municipal Party Committee’s Publicity Department; Chen Yanping, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice Chairperson of the Beijing Women’s Federation; and Gu Min, Chairperson of the Municipal Government Offices Trade Union, Director of the Women’s Committee, and Level II Bureau Rank Official. Representatives from district-level women’s federations, universities, internet enterprises, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and social organizations, as well as exemplary family representatives from across the capital, also attended.

Inheriting Family Values: Rooted in Culture, Shaped by National Identity

Family traditions are rooted in culture and sustained by devotion to both family and nation. At the event, a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage (ICH) performance team delivered a powerful martial arts presentation, Bajiquan (Eight Extremities Fist). Through vigorous and disciplined movements, the performers embodied the spirit of “keeping one’s fists ever ready while never forgetting the nation,” expressing the enduring values of protecting both family and country that are passed down across generations.

The performance highlighted the intergenerational transmission of family values rooted in safeguarding both family and country, allowing the audience to deeply experience the integration of family heritage and national responsibility.

Diamond Wedding Family Values: Passing Down Wisdom to the Next Generation

Focusing on guiding young people’s perspectives on marriage and family, the event invited retired Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design professor Pan Wuhua and his spouse, who are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary, to share their family story through a recorded video message.

Drawing on the wisdom of their scholarly family tradition, the couple offered newlyweds a meaningful “first lesson” on marriage and family values. Together with the audience, they also launched the “Newlyweds Begin Family Traditions with Heartfelt Rituals” initiative.

Jointly developed by the Beijing Women’s Federation and the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, the initiative establishes family values spaces in marriage registration offices throughout the city. By scanning a QR code, newlywed couples can access an online platform showcasing exemplary families, where they can explore family instructions, codes of conduct, and family stories—beginning married life inspired by positive family traditions.

Clean and Honest Family Values: Walking Together on a Shared Path

Following the launch of the “Clean and Honest Family Values” urban experience route in 2025, Beijing introduced a new initiative to further deepen the program.

A dedicated “Clean and Honest Family Values Urban Experience Route” will be launched on the Amap platform, encouraging government agencies, public institutions, and families of Party members and officials to participate through themed Party activities, weekend family programs, visits, and study tours.

Through immersive experiences, participants will engage with Beijing’s rich culture of integrity and clean governance. The initiative aims to cultivate upright Party conduct, effective governance, and positive social values through the influence of exemplary family traditions.

“Children’s Voice for Family Values”: Young Ambassadors of Tradition

The best family traditions nurture the best children. The “Children’s Voices Carry Forward Family Values” program will invite primary and secondary school students aged 6 to 15 across Beijing to become young storytellers and advocates for positive family values. Through storytelling, reenactments of family instructions, and recitations of family letters, children will demonstrate the traditional virtues and moral character of the younger generation in the new era.

At the launch event, two young presenters vividly shared touching stories of exemplary families, while students from Yuyuan Primary School in Mentougou District jointly delivered the campaign declaration. Their sincere and youthful voices conveyed the power of family traditions and reflected the spirit of today’s young generation in carrying forward traditional virtues and promoting positive social values.

A performance of the classical piece Xiao Ya · Lu Ming further highlighted these themes. Through pure and heartfelt singing, the children expressed devotion to family and country by blending classical elegance with contemporary spirit, vividly showcasing the vitality of unity, virtue, and aspiration in the new era.

At the conclusion of the event, senior officials presented copies of the Xi Jinping Visits Families (Second Volume) compiled by the All-China Women’s Federation. Organizers expressed the hope that families would draw inspiration and strength from the touching stories and life experiences featured in the book, contributing to the goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the new journey of national development.

Advancing together on a new journey, family traditions continue to nurture households across the capital. At the conclusion of the ceremony, leaders from the organizing institutions jointly launched “The Most Beautiful Family Traditions Nurture Every Household” Beijing Initiative—the 2026 Family Values and Family Education Campaign.

Through diverse activities and outreach platforms, the initiative seeks to bring exemplary family traditions into thousands of homes, strengthen family participation in Beijing’s high-quality development, and unite families in building a modern capital characterized by shared values, social harmony, and positive civic spirit.
