On the afternoon of May 21, Zhou Zhijun, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Beijing Women’s Federation (BWF), led a delegation to Shijingshan District, Beijing, to conduct special research on child-friendly initiatives and the development of family education and family values. Chen Yanping, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice-President of the BWF, and Zhang Lijun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shijingshan District Committee, participated in the visit.

The delegation first visited the “Most Beautiful Route to School” project in Gucheng Sub-district and the Yongding River Market. They toured facilities including sheltered corridors and waterfront walkways, and observed a range of child-friendly and family-oriented designs, such as pedestrian-vehicle separation planning, interactive science games, and new family-oriented lifestyle businesses catering to family needs. The delegation also learned about the child-friendly “micro-renovation” concept featuring “one belt, two corridors, and multiple nodes,” and experienced firsthand the comfortable, healthy, safe, and growth-supportive integrated spaces created for children.

The delegation then visited the Mulin Community Neighborhood Center on Jianxing Street in Gucheng Sub-district to gain a detailed understanding of local work related to families and children. Focusing on strengthening family development, the center has established the “Good Neighbor Families” brand. Through the “Old Neighbors’ Consultation” mechanism, the center identifies families’ needs and provides more than 40 services, including parenting salons, after-school care, and arts training. These initiatives help promote positive family values, strengthen mutual support among neighbors, and energize grassroots governance through a community model featuring sub-district coordination, social-sector operation, and family participation.

At the Shijingshan District Women and Children’s Activity Center, the delegation reviewed the center’s efforts to build a leading service platform for women, children, and families through three major areas: women’s development, family growth, and child-friendly initiatives. They also listened to a briefing on local women’s and children’s work.

Zhou Zhijun fully affirmed Shijingshan District’s achievements in aligning with its urban functional positioning, coordinating resources, innovating activity platforms, and responding to the needs of women and families. The participants also held in-depth exchanges on how women’s federations can better serve the overall development agenda by strengthening Party-building leadership, adhering to problem-oriented and needs-oriented approaches, further expanding service coverage, and advancing all areas of work through more practical measures.
