BWF Highlights Women, Children's Development

Zhang Yajun, President of Beijing Women's Federation, outlined the progress of women and children's undertakings and the federation's major work achievements, in the past five years, during a news conference in Beijing. The event, the first of several themed news conferences to be held ahead of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, was held on July 2. 

Regarding women's equal and all-round development, Zhang highlighted improvements in women's education and health care, women's greater participation in decision-making and their enhanced roles in social governance, the guarantees women have received to social security, and the contributions women have made to sci-tech innovation, rural revitalization and grass-roots governance.

Regarding children's healthy growth, Zhang detailed the achievements in children's health care, in both preschool and compulsory education, in the protection of minors, and in the building of a child-friendly Chinese capital.

During the past five years, women's federations, at all levels in Beijing, have given full play to their roles of uniting and helping lead women, from all walks of life, in making full use of their advantages, and in contributing their wisdom and strength to the advancement of the high-quality development of Beijing, Zhang said.
