Huang Meets, Accompanies UN Women Chief Bahous to China National Museum of Women and Children
Date:2024-11-17 15:02:07 Views:Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, met Sima Bahous, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director, in Beijing, on November 14, 2024. Huang and Bahous had discussions, and Huang accompanied Bahous during a visit to China National Museum of Women and Children.
Huang extended a warm welcome to Bahous. Huang noted Chinese President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to women's cause, and to the work of women's federations, and Xi has delivered several important discourses on this subject, leading to historical achievements in Chinese women's development in the new era. Huang also explained that Xi introduced China's proposals during the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, in 2015, and during the High-Level Meeting on the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, in 2020, which has promoted gender equality and women's all-round development.
Peng Liyuan, Xi's wife, cares about girls' growth and women's development, and Peng has made outstanding contributions to the global advancement of girls' and women's education, Huang added.
During their discussions, Huang and Bahous exchanged views on working together to organize events to commemorate the 30th anniversary (in 2025) of the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing+30). Huang and Bahous said both sides should work together to accelerate global efforts to implement the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, to inject new vitality into promoting gender equality and women's progress globally.
During their visit to the China National Museum of Women and Children, and during their discussions, Huang, by referring to exhibits and vivid cases, explained the measures taken by women's federations to safeguard women's rights and interests, advance women's development, foster stronger family ties, values, and traditions and expand women's foreign exchanges and cooperation. Huang also explained the achievements made in the above-mentioned fields.
Bahous said she was grateful for China's warm and friendly welcome, and she spoke highly of the achievements in Chinese women's development, and of ACWF's work. During her visit to the museum, Bahous paid special attention to the exhibition showcasing the achievements in Chinese women's development in the new era, and to various exhibits that were used during the Fourth World Conference on Women.
Bahous said UN Women will carry forward the spirit of the Fourth World Conference on Women, deepen cooperation with China to advance preparations for Beijing+30, and work toward new, and greater, achievements in global women's development.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of ACWF, and heads from the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant departments and affiliated institutions of ACWF, also attended.
